Thinking about PX'ing my OH's Focus hatch for a 1 owner V70 2.4 170bhp manual, 110,000mls, July 2001, leather interior.

It's had 12 services, last stamp in 2013 but loads of work done since apparently, paperwork to support this, belts have not been done by the sound of it but will be if req'd. Brake light check light on dash illuminates despite all 3 brake lights working?

Apparently the car drives very nicely & is in good condition for year/mileage, is there anything specific I should be asking & then looking for if we go & see it?
Most V70 threads I found are years old, wanted something more up to date if possible.

Price is a bit high & offering low end PX on the Focus so want to be sure it's a good 'un!

I'm assuming the 2.4 is N/A? Do too many short trips to risk a turbo.

They have said they will do belts if not done, the brake warning worries me slightly, it had a new servo not long ago they said.

I think they're chancing their arm going out at top money as it's a 1 owner car, it's not cosmetically perfect from the pics ( they didn't mention that) & servicing may not be 100%. Problem is, these rarely come up, especially within 50-100mls of us, this one is 20mls away, manual & 170bhp. How fussy can you be on a 15yr old car?

Maybe we'll offer a straight purchase & sell the Focus on eBay, see what deal they'll do that way.

At £1500 it would start to make more sense.
That echoes my own thinking then. There is a turbo one a lot farther away with similar miles for £1295.00, 6mth longer MoT

Ok, found another one, slightly older, slightly less miles, decent tyres, no leather @ almost half the price! Slightly further away & private seller, waiting for him to answer a few questions then hopefully go & see it over ther weekend.

Other than the obvious belt changes, service history, suspension noises, AC & electrics working etc, is there anything specific I should be asking before driving an hour or so to see it?

Just to confirm my original post, not interested in turbo cars due to doing lots of short journeys (& it being my OH's car mainly, she won't remember to idle it before switch off).

Also make sure to test drive for around 20+ mins, as common box problems only manifest themselves when the fluid is thoroughly up to temperature.

If its a manual, make sure to see it started from cold, as any DMF knock will be more noticeable at cold start.
Tis a manual, been put off auto's by reading on here about them!

The scruffy sounding one for £600 in Bristol might be worth a trip, though. It would leave a lot of cash spare for tidying. It's worth looking at a few to see what you want, and it's worth making an effort to travel to avoid making an expensive mistake. I know it's a pain in the arse, but it would be time well spent.

Is there a reason you're looking to change from a focus to a V70? If it wasn't for my dog, I'd have a much wider choice of cars. I reckon the V70 has just turned the corner from being a reasonably modern car with most mod cons to an old car with a lot of potentially expensive problems. Even the newest P2 is 8 years old.
Cheers, really want to avoid travelling too much, spare time is at a premium & only to spend £2k or less on car so don't want to spend hundreds on fuel looking for one!

Reason for change is simple, we need a practical, roomy car for 2 growing kids, 2 dogs & camping trips if we ever get a summer! The Focus has done us proud but won't carry on forever either.
