I've always bought die cast good quality models, but over the past couple of years I've found it increasingly pointless, the last time I was genuinely pleased with a car was my 250gto nearly 2 years ago, I found myself stood in a number of massive model shops at Le Mans and walked out without spending a penny!

But last week my better half accidentally let it slip that she'd bought a scalextric for my birthday, it's reawakened my love for model cars as there's an actual point to a highly detailed slot car, it looks good on the shelf AND it actually does something! So I bought this as my first proper slot car....

Can't wait! Looking at a 6r4 next with working 4wd! So I thought I'd get a thread going and see what's out there.

This is my first, other than that just the 2 that came with the set, they're gash to be honest. I sold most of my die cast last year so I'm down to 2 dozen of my favorites. Really loving the slot cars, top quality models, often for a fraction of the cost and you can actually do something with them. Brilliant. I'm planning on buying a 6r4 for when my mate comes to race, my mrs loves the corvette at Le Mans this year so I'd like to get that, gotta have Daniel Ricardo's red bull for the boy, then I'm going to set about building a Motorsport legends collection. Quite excited! If your dad has any used ones he'd like to sell I'd be interested. I get more pleasure from buying a used model than brand new.

I like that set! Is the 6r4 4x4?

Wow, impressive! How long has it taken you to collect all those? Is the intergralle in the last pic a 4x4 magnetic one?

I had a knock at the door today!

Yep, completely sold on slot cars, 6r4 next!

Would those very old scalextric cars work on modern track or is there no difference?

I've got to say it is very good quality for what it is, I was quite surprised how good it was, do they build cars on a limited edition basis? Looking at their website, they don't seem to have a very big stock. Who else is worth looking at?

What a site! My other half is gonna hate you, cancel the 6r4. Ordered this. My 5 year old is going to be repeatedly trounced!

That track looks amazing! I was looking at some models earlier and came across a competition ford that i fell in love with immediately, it said in the description that its microns off the tracks so was only really useable on a perfect smooth track. I now understand what they mean now looking at that, taking the jag off to the local club on the 8th.feel like a 10 year old again!

I think for a newbie such as myself who maybe foolishly spent a lot of money on a semi pro car, the magnets are probably a good idea, once I get to grips with it I may give it a go and see what the difference is, but for now it's too pretty to smash up just yet. Got a couple of beaters with the set I'm receiving in 2 days! So I'll smash them up first I think. Been in touch with my local club, heading down there to have a go on their large circuit on the 8th! Might have to surrender my credit card over to my mother or something for a bit, keep finding stunning cars for far to much money!

Nice! Really like the set, seen it on ebay fairly cheap, I want a 4x4 6r4 though which costs about the same so I may have to skip that one, having great fun with the Astra, no magnet makes for interesting racing at lower speeds, think the motors on the way out though as it sounds rough as rats, it clicks when you turn the wheels by hand, bad sign?

Love the FLY models, good detail and very quick. Magnets are a bit too strong though!

My FLY Viper GTR blue with white stripes is probably my favourite model.
Pic?

Wow! That's a serious collection there! Sadly starting a new business has but a temporary hold on any would be purchases. However, Le Mans is coming up and there's a good number or stalls selling a huge range of slot cars as well as resin and die cast so I think I may bring something back!
