Hi,
I'd like to know what the vertical markings are for on the turrets of Cromwell tanks used in the D-Day landings. I've seen two, one at Pegasus bridge, Benouville and the other near Lion Sur Mer. I suspect that they are azimuth markings but am not certain.

I thought someone in here would know what they are for...

Not Cromwells but the Royal Marines Centaurs, they were used to assist in aiming when the tanks were used in an artillery battery role. Also seen on their command Shermans.
I did wonder whether I'd incorrectly identified the armoured beasties...thank you!
