80s Tamiya Thunder Dragon

Had one of these as a kid in the late 80s and loved it. It's been gathering dust at my parent's house ever since and I thought I'd get it up and running for my nephew. I recall the battery was rubbish, taking a few hours to charge and lasting around 20 minutes. I presume batteries have come a long way since then? Can you still buy batteries and if so could you point me a shop? Anything else to consider before firing it up again so to speak?
