Hi, I am looking for a fast hot hatch for commuting and fun, and would love to get into a Clio 200 Cup, but realistically its out of budget for the time being.

What is the next best RS Clio?

The 182 looks like its quite a punchy piece of kit, but i know nothing about the older Clios, and would like to know what people in the know would recommend.

Which RS Clio car is held in highest esteem by the French Bread fraternity?...

I think you're on the right lines there yes... but look at the Trophy edition if you can stretch to it.
what does the Trophy have over the others?

I had a test drive in a Clio 182 Trophy yesterday, and was very impressed. How different is it to the 182 Cup?

Also I have read that the dampers are prone to failure and are expensive to fix, do you think the 182 cup would be a better option to live with on a daily basis?

Is the performance of the Trophy much better that the 182 Cup?
Also what should a Clio RS 200 Cup with 20,000 miles on te clock sell for?
There are anger of cars for sale, some as low as £8000, others priced £12000... Any idea what the real market vale should be?

For reference, ive owned a 172 Cup, a 182 with cup packs, 2 x Trophy's and a 197 Cup.

The Trophy is by far the best, with the 197 Cup lasting 3 weeks before i got sick of the cr4p mpg (28 lol), average level of speed, light steering and general averageness. It was supposed to replace the Trophy. It didnt.
Have you got any experience in a 200 cup vs the Trophy?
I've decided the battle is between the Trophy and the 200 Cup. But the cup will need a loan for, would you sy it's worth the extra burden of £150 per month over the Trophy?

Hmmm good point on the depreciation, I did not realise it would be so much on the 200.

I guess it's the Trophy, if I can find a decent car for £4000, else it will have to be a 182 cup.

Does anyone know this Trophy? (eBay link below)

And what do you recon?

Looks ok but a damper refurb hasn't been mentioned. They were about £500 from BG motorsports, but I think I saw something saying others have had the refurbed elsewhere for less (?) but you'd have to get on Clio Trophy or Cliosport forums to confirm that. Fred at BTM is a top guy to take your clio to so I'd be happy about that
The MOT had NO advisories! Which is good, but do you think that the MOT would pick up on a need for a damper refurb?

I doubt it. I would think all should've had a refurb to be in top working order, mine car went about 2.5yrs ago and people were doing them then so...
hmmm how can you tell if they need a refurb?

Thanks Johnnytheboy & Sir Dave, that site was very helpful.

The car has not had its dampers refurbished.

Does that mean it will def need them doing, or do the dampers on some cars not need it.`

I guess i have to try the bounce test!

If its of any interest, mine (linked earlier) could be purchased for less than £4k. Im simply not using it anymore - its just sat on the drive looking sad.
Has it got 170,000 miles on it?

All the Trophies in my budget 3-4k are pretty tired and leggy.

What do you recon about this 182 Cup for me?
http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

Offers around £3.5k.

Or would it be a mistake not to get a Trophy... its really only for the short commute.
