Just noticed this tapping/ticking sound recently and as far as I can tell it's only when the car's up to temperature. I had the cambelt, aux. belt, dephaser and water pump changed in the last 300 miles or so at SWR in Stirling.

  • Hard to notice, if at all, with the bonnet lifted from the outside or with the windows down. It's much clearer from the inside with the windows up
  • It rises with the revs up to a point (then it's hard to tell if it's still there or not) but it's not all that loud
  • After pulling up and letting the car idle it doesn't immediately make the sound, takes a short while, around 20 seconds say, before it starts doing it.

I read about the carbon cannister briefly and listened close to the headlight but could barely make out the sound.

SWR in Stirling, highly recommended Renault specialist.

It doesn't sound like it's coming from the engine itself to be honest, it's more noticeable if I get down on the ground around the centre of the car.

Someone on cliosport said there's made a similar sound when the manifold to car gasket was shot.

Nah it's more of a light tappety sound, not the full on diesel-like noise a knackered dephaser makes.

Given the dephaser's been replaced I'd be extremely miffed if that was suspect.

No but I'd suspect the carbon cannister.

It's been 9 years/50k milesand it still does it so it's certainly not important!
