Help: Is this a Gen I or Gen II
Discussion
Dipping my toe into the world of Mini ownership. Can someone tell me if this is a Gen I or Gen II car?

I understand that they changed in 06 but I cannot see an obvious way to differentiate. I thought the dash went from five components down to three but I have seen cars before '06 with a three component dash.
Is there an obvious way to tell A Gen I and Gen II apart?
Is there an obvious way to tell a One and a Cooper apart?
With some many optioins available it is hard to fathom what is out there. For example, I thought Coopers came with a two tone paint job between the body and roof and yet the one above is a showed as a One but has the aforementioned. Ahhhh, too much customisation!
Thanks in advance,

The instant give away on that car/ those photos is the headlights. Gen1 MINIs had the headlights attached to the bonnet so when you open the bonnet the headlights go up. Gen 2 MINIs have holes in the bonnet and the headlights in the engine bay....
Now that is a very useful nugget of information. My wife has now turned her attention back to a Gen I convertable. Time to start learning about those....
