As no cradle yet exists for the Mini (bad form BMW that it takes so long), what's the other method for getting accessing Connected drive in a new Mini Countryman?

The car has the functionality & my iPhone 6 has the App, however what cabling do i need to access the functionality?

I'm about to secure a Lightning variant of the Media Cable (Aux & USB input) so i'd expect & the manual kind of suggests the same that this is the correct method to access Connected Drive if not using a Cradle. Is this correct. I assume this also charges the iPhone & provides Media playback from the phone?

Thanks in advance.

Nobody?

Don't want to order this BMW lightning media cable if it won't provide connected drive functionality as well as media.

Lightning cable will work
Do you mean just the regular Apple lightning cable? I got it to charge the phone & could play Audio but no Connected Drive via regular lightning cable. Will the actual BMW media cable for iPhone 6 provide Connected Drive functionality.

Sorry, that was vague. I mean the BMW/MINI Media Cable/Y-Cable.

It's also just occurred to me that if you've got MINI Connected, you must have Media Pack, so you should get a Y-Cable with the car...
Thanks. We did get the Media Y Cable but the wife had an iPhone 4S when she collected the car a month ago & it never occured to me to request the lightning variant as she's not got my iPhone 6s now I've upgraded to a 6.

The lightning Y Cable seems to be rare in the UK but I have found one to buy. What's thrown me is if I add a lightning adapter to the Y cable it doesn't allow Connected drive functionality so I didn't want to acquire a new Y cable if it wasn't going to give me connected drivesmile

Hi,

I worked for Mini as a new car sales exec up until 2 weeks ago (currently travelling the world).

The official BMW/MINI lightning adaptor cable only became available around the start of this year if I remember correctly.

Anyway to answer your question, you need the official lightning cable from BMW/MINI.

From memory they cost £49.

Make sure you get the media one and not the music one.

As long as your Countryman has MINI CONNECTED as an option then it will work with your iphone6.

Your MINI Countryman needs to have one of the following for mini connected -

1.) MEDIA PACK
2.) Visual boost radio with MINI CONNECTED

The vis boost and mini connected are to seperate options, so it would be circa £500 for vis boost and then circa 2-300 for MINI Connected.

So yeah, you do need to get the official cable as it wont work properly any other way.

The new hatch's (F55/56) work with mini connected with just the normal white charging cable.

This is because its the new generation technology and the r60 countryman is based predominantly on the previous r56 hatch albeit it has been facelifted in July this year.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Leo,

I've now ordered 2 of these Media Cables, MPN ending 505 as i'll chuck one in my M5 given no Advanced Cradle will exist for the iPhone 6 in the near future & the other for the Mini.

It's been a minefield trying to get the correct setup as in my F10 M5 a normal iPhone 6 USB cable plugged into the USB port provides Audio & allows the use of BMW connected drive, but in the Mini the Apple cable only charges the phone. You'd think these systems would be exactly the same. Wife has my iPhone 5 advanced cradle in her car but that doesn't help me with my iPhone 6 so it's been trial & error so am hoping this will be the end of my woessmile

So annoying that BMW can't apply sensibility.

The Advanced Cradle from my F10 M5 fits & works fine in the wife's Countryman as i'd expect, however the one thing it won't handle is Audio. All looks fine but no actual noise comes out although it appears the track/album is playing. Phone & Mini Connected via the Advanced Cradle work fine but no bloody Audio. Rang Mini & guess what? the advanced cradle for the Mini is a different part number so it appears the BMW's have better software & hardware & the Mini's are somewhat lagging.

This has pissed me off as now i have am iPhone 5s cradle i can't use in either car & will have to sell & the option of spunking £220 for an Advanced Mini cradle which we all know will be exactly the same as the one i have but with older firmwarefrown

Yeah thats the one.

Product number is 61 12 2 287 505.

This cable will sort you out, its basically the same as thr cradle.

I always advised customers to just buy this cable instead of the cradle as it does the same thing for 1/3 of the price.

Yes BMW's work with just the normal white iphone cable, I can only imagine this is due to the software the BMW is running and now the new gen MINI Hatch's F55/56's are now also running this and can do the same.

But any others, essentially any R series MINI would need the cable we've mentioned.

Give me a shout if theres anything else I can help with but this cable will solve your issues.

Leo
All working well now with the correct cable as above. Thankssmile
