Difficulty in selecting gear

Currently I have a R53 2002 with 80k on the clock, and i know its got a stiff gearchange, but I have noticed that over the last few months its become difficult at times to select 1st or 2nd and you need to really push it into gear.

So far I have changed the gearbox oil, and also greased underneath the airbox where i can see the cables and mechanisms. My next step was to prise off the cables and also grease under the gearstick in the cabin

One thing i did try tonight was turning off the engine and just try selecting gears and it seemed to be ok.

Would it be potentially an issue with the clutch and it not dis-engaging? The clutch seemed ok and doesn't slip, but it has got a glazed flywheel. I was thinking the cables might sticking but that may not be the case?

Any ideas?

Spoke to my mobile mechanic and he suggested its the clutch plate thats worn so will need to be replaced.

Now looking for someone who could do the work.
