Bought a 2004 Mini Cooper Convertible the other week and I've noticed a rattle on the right hand side of the engine bay, it's not coming from the engine itself. Worse when it's cold on start up, not constant or rhythmic and quietens down somewhat when it's warm but can still be faintly heard. More of a scraping noise in nature and sounds like something is worn. I'll try and get some video when it's been sat for a while and cooled down but in the meantime phot attached. It's coming from the thing highlighted but I've no idea what that thing is. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks chaps. That's what I thought, that it's an engine mount. They're oil filled? Do they rattle in the way that I've described?

Thanks. I've discovered a mini indy not too far from me so I'll take it in and see what they say. Is it a relatively straightforward fix?

bks. I've done a fair amount of googling and it's not the engine mount, I think it may be a clutch issue. Basically the noise goes away when I press the clutch pedal but returns when I take my foot off. What is that exactly, any ideas?

Should add that I have no problems changing gear and no other weird noises, whining, slipping, etc.

Aye, I spoke to my local Mini indy today and that was one of the options that might be causing the problem. Ugh, what a pain in the arse.
