2006 cooper S stalling on roadside

Hi, my wife's Mini Cooper s decided to stall on side of road, with the dashboard lighting up like a Christmas tree, had it recovered, would not even turn over, dead as a dodo

Any ideas?. Could it be something as simple as an alternator??
