Hi,

I have a 2003 Cooper. Yesterday, when I got back from the shops, I noticed a whining sound from the engine bay, near the Power Steering pump. A few hours later, the battery had been completely drained. Found this to be a very common problem with this gen minis. I have been quoted over £600 for the replacement and labour. Considering that I paid just over £2k for the car nearly 6 months ago, I am not sure whether I should get it fixed or scrap it. Have already spent £400 on the air conditioning, locks and coolant leak.

I was only planning to keep it for a year, so if i get the pump replaced and sell it, I doubt I would get more than £1400. The scrap value is about £300.

thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Herman,

nope, the battery was completely flat when I checked. Tbh, if I can get the whole job done for £300, i would definitely keep the car.

I can still hear the pump working after I turn the ignition off and it gradually drains the battery.

Thanks Herman.

Also does anyone know if the power steering pump is covered under AutoProtect Gold warranty? My car is still under warranty.
