As there seems to be plenty of cricket fans I thought it may be worth having a thread for cricket that doesn't have its own thread. We have just had the U19s World Cup which SA won , England made it to the semis must give us some hope for the future.
The Asia cup is in full swing in which Afganistan pulled off a shock beating Bangladesh. If other countries put the game first and play Afganistan more we may see another team pushing for test match status.
The county season is just round the corner as a Yorkshire fan I can't wait.

I try and keep up with the world league cricket, watched Afghanistans rise up the leagues and teams like USA who could do better.
What we're the make up of the French teams ? Ex-pats ?
Excellent finish to India -Pakistan shocking penultimate over from Pakistan needing 13 from 12 they scored 3 runs and lost 2 wkts. Afridi then finishes it with 2 consecutive 6s in the last over with India needing 1 wicket.

Watched the Pakistan vs India match, fukin hell what a game, thought Pakistan would take the game easily, but India then swung it in their favour.

Afridi kept cool and ensured Pakistani victory.

Seeing Kohli's reaction at the end was satisfying, especially how he celebrated when Ajmal got out biggrin
That's what you get with Afridi in pressure situation he either looks daft and is caught on the boundary first ball or makes it look easy and is a hero. Am I right in saying India may struggle to make the final ?

Didn't India have a quick who could bowl at 90mph I seem to think he toured England last time his last name started with.a V ? Good question though India have produced very few world class quicks , odd considering the popularity of the game.

Varun Aaron?
Yes that's who I was thinking of. Googled him and read an article on cricinfo seems a work in progress at the minute. High economy rate and he got clobbered in the Bangladesh game. That said he was clocked at 93mph so he may just need to be coached correctly.

SL cruised to into final easily beating Afghanistan. More surprisingly Smith has announced his retirement not had a great year but I would have thought he would have had a couple more years at test match level. Maybe he is going to play for Surrey ?

More than likely a Pakistan SL final should be a good one. Smith has 2 more years at Surrey , he picked up an Irish passport last year so it will give Surrey a chance for a midthirties county pro to come and top up their pension or get another overseas player in.

What channel are the highlights on ? He scored 50 off 18 the second fastest in ODI and the 3rd time he has done it.

Pretty straight forward win by SL. Watched part of SL innings , Pakistan will be disappointed ground fielding was sloppy , and bar Ajmal none of the bowlers created any pressure.

Gul seems to have lost his way he was a world class bowler , at 29 he can still come back though.
SL players seem to heading a pay stand off again, they have also signed an agreement with Afghanistan to help out. Good to see the test match teams helping out the minnows of the game. I think more boards should do this , help the game expand and try and bring more countries into the test match arena.

World 20/20 just around the corner , the qualifiers are having warm up games and a shock as Zim lost to HongKong. Although only a warm up they seem miles away from getting test match status back. The 90s team they had must seem like a lifetime ago. I read the domestic game is a total mess. Players not paid and a real struggle to organize games or any kind of first class structure.

A warm up 20/20 v windies today and an easy win for them. The batting failed to fire once again. If only we had someone with the fire power to put big totals on the board. In unrelated news the ECB have locked the door to a KP return. Giles Clarke says move on he isn't coming back.

The county season is nearly on us , Durham are playing MCC in Abu Dhabi still slightly strange this game isn't at Lords. Who do PHers think will be county champions this year. I'll kick it off I'm going with Yorkshire , I thunk some of the England boys will end up back at Headingley more than last year.

Traditional county v uni matches to start the season. Trott played scored 4 out offering no shot to a left armer I hope he does play again for England. Meaker finished with figures of 6 overs 6for 6 a start to the season like that will see him playing for England. Cook spoke briefly about KP situation seems as if there is a gagging clause but he did say shortly he would be able to say what went on and why he was dropped. What ever it was it was this story will run and run. Dropping him will haunt the ECB for a good while yet.

Some strange selections, has Rogers done enough to be a WC of the year ?

County wise prior is back in the runs and Finn took a six for. Gives me some confidence England can turn themselves around.

It's not looking too good for Jonathan Trott at the minute. Out cheaply again yesterday, he can't seem to play the short ball. Got hit on the head and body before getting out on the hook. Worrying for his England
prospects
He has had a relapse and has taken an extended break from the game. In all honesty if his England career wasn't finished the first time it certainly is now. I can't see a way back he may finish from the game completely.
More positively some England players got runs and wickets at the last round of championship games. Cook got a century albeit in the second division. Finn got 8 wkts and Sam Robson scored some big runs.
