As the new season is just around the corner I thought I'd put this here, smile
My Jets have finally signed Darelle Revis for lots, so now have the best pair of corners in the league, now time for Sanchez to wake up.
How are your team going to do?

(I say no haters, past efforts suggest they might be the only thing to keep this thread alive biggrin)

NFL is something which has always interested me, though I rarely find the time (or ease) to keep up to date with it.

There's obviously the internet, but if I were to want to watch a few games, what means of access do I require?
Maybe Gamepass.nfl.com has various subscriptions, this is how I'll be watching all my Jets games.

laugh oops, maybe not live then?

Why do they put them on at such stupid times then?

And also, if the games arent even live, why do they still show all the stupid adverts? I would have thought a highlight replay of the game would cut all that out?
Yes live, those are the games sky show, channel four have the late game live which starts at around midnight.
The NFL are doing two monday night games now(ESPN), one starts late followed by the other &*%$£ing late(if your an early riser you can watch the game live tuesday morning around four, (in the evening there obviously).
Also the odd thursday night game thrown in.(sky)
The timings in the US are to have most games at lunch time and three in the afternoon on sunday.

I am indeed planning to watch this year.. after playing in here in the UK (BAFACL for those that know) for too many years I am now 'retired' to spend more time watching it and shouting at the TV.. bring on the beer and snacks.

go niners.. (I am nothing if not optimistic)

Also I hope they bring back the snorting channel4 logo thing, it will be like the 80's again smile

Haha, and Frankie goes to Hollywood. 49ers are the only team not to lose a pre-season game..

On Sky tomorrow we have the Giants hosting Panthers then 49ers at Seahawks.
49ers should get the win, the first game will probably be a little closer.

Vikings fan here! Not got Sky but got an ESPN card that plugs into the TV - £10 a month for Monday Night Football, a bit of Premier League and various DTM / GT racing etc thumbup
Used to have that back when it was NASN, is pardon the interruption still a good show? last I saw Tony Kornheiser was getting quite keen on himself.

Me too. I used to play too back in the 80's/early 90s - best sport I've ever taken part in; varied, technical, fast (apart from the breaks!) and adrenaline fuelled.

I remember it so well from when channel 4 broke it here, the glory days of Montana, Marino, Payton, Taylor and co. Happy days. I even used to import the official NFL mag back then, not a bad read.

The America's Game series mentioned was brilliant too - such a good authentic feel to it and really moving at times.
Did you two manage to not break anything? I used to play some running back and was lucky enough to just have pulled muscles and bruises.

Another really accurate prediction from me. laugh
I did think the 49ers would be strong by now under Mike Singletary, maybe he isn't the man for the job.

I remember watching him play linebacker in the legendary Bears of the 80s! Fantastic player and fantastic team, what a defence they had.
That was the first superbowl I watched, the 85 Bears, sweetness should have got his touchdown, RIP Walter Payton.

Well I played my last game a few weeks back, I broke my middle finger and snapped the tendon in the one next to it.. I am currently sporting a nice 'cast' type thing on my left hand but I played kitted for 17 years so my list of breaks is huge.. Highlights include dislocated fingers, dislocated hip, torn ACL and MCL and two really good concussions.

I played linebacker most of the time for the Newport Pagnel Panthers, Beds Huskers, London Blitz and then the Chiltern/Watford Cheetahs. In my time I even managed to train alongside the New Orleans Saints and the highlight of my life was running a 40yd sprint alongside the late great Sam Mills... (I was a promising youth player at the time.. but the injuries put paid to that)

I have hung up my kit now as the body is too old and broken. I am being hounded to get back for one more year but I really am past it.

I am spending my time now watching and swearing at the TV.

Are any of you guys going to wembley?
Ouch, I always felt sorry for those poor guys in a cast, got to be as dangerous as hobbies get.
As for swearing at the TV, plenty of that as the Jets have no offence at all. irked

I went to the giants game the other year, was great to see a proper game after going to several pre-season ones.

Gone quiet here lately so 'bumping' . .

Currently catching up on the Bears Packers game (and loved the ESPN Countdown show!) + have finished watching the Jets v Dolphins game.

What a humdinger! Reminded me how tense and exciting the NFL can be. I was surprised and impressed by the Dolphin's offence (apart from the silly throw away turnover in the 4th quarter) plus enjoyed some good defensive play from both teams.

Shaping up to be a good season smile
The Jets D went to sleep, also missed Revis and Pace, really pleased about Sanchez's improvement though. smile
Bears and Packers was a messy one, can't believe all the penalties from such a talented team, still good though.

Why are the Raiders popular on here? Why were they popular in the late 80s/early 90s?

After looking at the Superbowl winners list I see they won it in 1984, but from growing up and it being on C4, the only sort of merchandise available for NFL here used to be LA Raiders stuff?
Public Enemy, NWA and Icecube. smile
