windscreen wiper motor -GT3
Discussion
mine has the wobbles ! resulting in the arm slapping the stop just at the base of the windscreen, so as it wobbles around i wondered what the cure might be, i have taken the arm of and moved it round a spline or two but of course the arm now looks a little unsightly parked away from the bottm of the screen. so the thing is, how do you get to it to see if its worked itself loose or needs replacing altogther !
any pointers anyone
any pointers anyone
Took a look at the wiper base and the play is significant in the pivot point. . .so a re shim seemed to a good idea, did this and it is slightly better, but if a proper bearing was put in then even better still. . . So I am thinking of a router bearing. . Will let you know how I go. . . A spare base would be handy . . . Anyone got one ?
well i took the plunge and have the mechanism out. the motor interestingly has been replaced, a nice 2001 'tested by' sticker on it. As has been mentioned the rose jointed end is all nicely made, zero slack in it. The spindle has already either been repaired or replaced, the weld and infact the whole thing has some form of coating on it. . could be zinc or similar, but the slop in the mechanism is within the spindle shaft itself where it goes through the outer part, the shaft is very worn. A clean up on a lathe of the spindle shaft and a re bush should see all the slack taken out of it where it has become very oval. I still like the idea of a bearing in the bottom of the nut on the underside of the bracket(Nut not shown in the pic) and a bush at the top part. . . I may as well make it as good as i can after all its a proper painfull job to get to, half my car is in the lounge !
