Users of SPDs will know the club to which I refer.

Luckily there was no-one around to see it & I was up and away before anybody appeared.

On the way down however, I had time to mull over a few things:

1. I couldn't remember the last time I properly fell over and therefore wasn't sure how much it was going to hurt. I'm 38 now and don't bounce so well anymore!

2. As you're going over, it is the least natural movement in the world to continue to try & release your foot from said pedal.

3. I sure hope there's no-one around to see this.

4. Why did my brain, now displaying amazing clarity of thought as I braced to take the majority of the impact with an outstretched knee & elbow & then roll onto my shoulder, not make the connection between my pulling onto the verge & slowing down with my wanting to get off the bloody thing & therefore needing to release one of my feet?!

That said, I do remember twisting my foot to release & it didn't come out at the point I was expecting it to so there was a splitsecond delay before the panic twisting started! biggrin

I was half way through a 100 mile ride from home to the seaside.

I was going up a steep hill and got some chest pains which panicked me. Discovered later it was heartburn.

I rode to the side of the road and stopped. I forgot to unclip and fell over into a ditch full of nettles.
Being upside down in a ditch being stung from head to foot made the chest pains seem a little less urgent lol.
I lol'ed again. biggrin

If it helps for comedic purposes, and this is a question too by the way, I didn't take my hands off the bars. Think Delboy when he falls through the bar.

I think I didn't move my hands because I thought it would probably hurt more, is that the right thing to do or is it whatever works at the time?

Am I the first to renew my membership since my first post? biggrin

So after covering about 100 miles last week with my new pedals, went out on sunday, about halfway round my route so not totally knackered yet, pulled up after a climb that almost killed me, went to come to a stop next to a fence to lean on, unclipped, realise I HADN'T actually unclipped and promptly fell over. Both hands still firmly on the bars. And this time there WAS someone there to see it. I was hoping his car which was inbetween us had shielded me enough that he couldn't see, but no, "are you alright?" I hear, "yes, cheers mate". At least he had the decency not to laugh till he got in his car (I don't know if actually did or not but I reckon he probably did. I mean, who wouldn't?).

Anyways, I HAD unclipped but the front part of the cleat was still hooked on. Dammitt.

Oh, and it wasn't nettles but the nice patch of long comfy grass I'd managed to aquaint myself with obviously had something in it because when I got home about an hour later, my knee was nice and red and rather itchy too.

I have now decided the optimum technique is that when you realise you might want to consider the possibility of thinking about maybe wanting to unclip, UNCLIP!

Cue gales of laughter from the cloggies.

Best one yet! biggrin
