Just purchased a planet X carbon frame with part Ultegra group set for £999 . Paid £40 more for carbon seat post and stem and upgrade tyres and a few bits . ..That's got to be a £1800 bike ,how do they do it ? All the components are top notch ,nothing cheap on the bike .

Saw that myself. Looks a very nice bike, but I'm not good enough on a bike to spend £1000 just yet!
Well I spent £600 on a Jammis with low end parts and it was to small ,heavy so sold it on Ebay ..got more money than I paid for it ..Those ebayers are crazy !

They're being cheeky there IMO by stating "and we're not just giving you an Ultegra front mech, we're giving you a whole gearing system" when the chainset is actually from way down in the range. Okay, so it's technically not part of the 'gearing system', but the chainset is related to the gearing I'd say.

Anyway it's still damn good value. Enjoy!
If you spend around £50 more they upgrade the seat and handle bar stem to carbon ,supply much better tyres and upgrade for Gel tape .

Not sure what the chain set is but, did ask and he explained it`s equivalent to 105 . not heard of Shimano FC-R565 10 Speed Chainset

They do it -

Group set they got huge discount on as its about to be superseded
Cheap brakes
Cheap wheels
Cheap bars, stem, post, bar tape
Cheap tyres

It's on the face of it very impressive but actually your you had 105 and better wheels and tyres the bike would ride much more nicely I would think
Nothing wrong with the wheels ,good enough for me .brakes work ok ,upgraded bars, stem and tape and tyres for a little extra.

It`s still good value .

Thanks for your comments ,regarding The Ultegra bits on the bike does it matter if they are an old model ..?

Tried Evans cycles and other bike shops and they could not come close .

Is the chain set Shimano FC-R565 10 Speed equivalent to the 105?

Looking at the prices for spares the brakes and chainset seem to be more equivalent to 2300/Sora.

That's what makes the bike spec a bit weird imo. I'm sure it'll ride fine but as I said earlier I'd personally prefer full 105 to a mix of high/low end components.
They said it`s equivalent to a 105 .. Don`t think it belongs to a group set .

Just spotted the Sensa, £750

http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/bikes/road-b...

Anyone think that's a better deal than you'd get with Ribble etc?

Surely that's the best bike in that price bracket?
That bike is 9.1kg ,mine is only 8kg Mine has a carbon Seat stem and pro light handlebar stem so a bit lighter with the upgrade.
