Winter rubber

This might make me look a bit dumb, but I have a question:

Which is better to commute on in winter on my CX bike? 28 slick road tyres such as a Durano or 32 cx tyres such as the Rapid Rob's fitted.

For clarification, I am talking about the adhesive qualities during winter on asphalt/leaf/wet/cold/icy conditions not ride quality etc.

I am trying to find out which in theory should grip more. Slicks or knobbly.

Cheers. I use(d) duranos on my single speed, and these would be the default choice in 28's for the cross bike.
