Another what new/used road bike £1-1,500?

I would like a new (or new-to-me used) road bike. I currently have a 20-year-old Bianchi Campione D'Italia which I've owned since around 1997 and whilst in fairly good nick I want to retire that to bad weather/pub/trip to the shops rides.

My current riding consists of 3-4 days commute a week (A road, 15 kms each way) and a weekend ride of 20-40 kms subject to when the numbness in the right leg starts, leading to no feeling in my right foot. I want to lengthen the weekend rides and I'd like to try a sportive. I've never had a bike fitting.

My company offers the C2W scheme. I like the look of Italian bikes. My budget is £1,000 to £1,500.
