I've recently acquired a titanium mountain bike frame and I'm starting to shop around for bits to do a self build. I'm looking at headsets now, and I'm struggling to understand the plethora of terminology and metric/imperial measurements on various sites.

The frame is a 2009 Titus Fireline Titanium (26er), USA made, before Titus became one of the On-One brand. I assume therefore that the key measurements to look for are in inches.

The pictures below show the steerer tube:

I know the headsets are a pressed-in friction fit, is that what you would expect to see for a 1.5 inch steerer tube? Do I therefore need to search for a 1.5 inch 'internal' or 'integral' headset (the terminology seems to differ between brands).

For example, Hope use the terminology '1.5 inch integral':

Chris King seems to use the terminology NoThreadset, giving it the name of a 1.5 inch headset (35mm) but then going on to say in the product description that it suits a 1.5 inch fork steerer tube and a 49mm internal diameter frame, so that's too big for what I've got:

Then there's this Chris King headset, another NoThreadset name, but with a 1 1/8 inch measurement, which I think it too small for my frame?
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/chris-king-no-threadset-1-...

Then we have Cane Creek, their 10 series is a 1.5 inch headset but their sizing chart says that's suitable for a 34mm internal diameter steerer tube (which is what I have):
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cane-creek-10-series-tradi...

My issue seems to be the measurements reflect different things. They say a 1.5 inch headset is suitable for a 34mm frame, but 1.5 inches isn't 34mm. It's more like 39mm....

Can someone help explain? Or just point me to some links for Hope/Chris King/Cane Creek that will fit my frame shown?

Cheers!

Iain

To give this thread a bit of closure, after all my faffing about ordering the wrong headset initially, it turns out it's just a standard 1 1/8th headset. This is me pressing in the Hope headset using my home-made press constructed from some M12 threaded bar and associated washers, turned out rather well:
