Comeback starts tonight - club 10 content
Discussion
After a couple of years off the bike bar some occasional bursts of fixie commuting, tonight I return to where it all started, the local club 10. I'm a stone heavier than I used to be when racing and my only fitness has been a bit of running and sit/pressups to pass my RAF fitness test. I'm not even sure whether I'll be safe enough on the TT bike as I'm not very flexible at the moment and the position may be awkward, not to mention wobbly.
Still, I'm looking forward to the social scene at the sign on. Hoping to go under 30. That's my only goal. Perfect conditions though. seems still and a slight chill in the air despite sunshine.

Oof. Long time off the bike made holding my position hard. What seemed like nice conditions turned into a block headwind/tailwind course. Managed a 28:29 in full aero kit. Some 4 minutes off my course PB but leaving plenty of room for improvement across the season. Good to be back though, no matter how slow.
Cycling time trials provide insurance for club members but have a scheme called "come and try it" which they allow non club members along for and include the in thee insurance. This is usually limited to one course to limit the expenditure on insurance premiums and encourage club membership. Your club might be flexible though. Maybe pop down to the start one night and ask ion person. A 25 is at the quicker end for most club nights. The competition record is a short 17 I think. Our course record is a short 21 held by a UCI international team member. So it really depends on the club and course. Not many people will turn up and smash out a 25 without training. Unless your name is Michael Hutchinson
Good call doing a course recce. Sounds like a bit of exercise induced asthma. Something I've self diagnosed myself after a particularly hard effort. Usually it goes by mid day the next day. Good sign that you were on the rivet,in my experience.
Let us know how you get on in the event.
