Curious. Anyone been to the factory store and taken a test ride? How far/long can you go? Just round the car park for ten minutes or actually out on the road for an hour or so?

I don't know about the factory but they have a test centre in Mallorca where you can book a bike out to try for the day. It's in Calla Ferrera which is on the South East coast but still plenty of places to ride out from there and it's a pretty cheap place to go for a bit of riding in the sun wink
smile Like your thinking. That's also a possibility I've been considering. Take a week or 10 days out there during the late winter to introduce myself to climbing. Leave my bike at home and rent when I get there. Couple of days on a Canyon Ultimate, couple on a something else, couple on something else again, etc. Come back hopefully with better legs and a much better idea of what to buy/order for the spring.

The Koblenz thought came because I've been forming half a daft plan to drive to Italy for a Gran Fondo next month. I like driving, I like Italy and I'm sure I'd like Gran Fondos if I don't bonk. If I went, I'd go down on the D-roads but I could come back on the autobahns to make Koblenz on the way...

I'll sleazyjet to Mallorca, but that's a winter trip in my book. Even if it is cold on top of the climbs.

Italy/Koblenz would be next month, if I go. Mmmm, Italian ice cream [/Homer]. How much would a flat-land cyclist need for 4,000m climbing do you think?

I was there Thursday picking up my new bike and there were quite a few people riding around the car park. I think some we having their seat tweaked having bought a bike and some were just having a brief test ride. I was suffering from a little bit of sleep deprivation having got the 2am ferry to Dunkirk to see exactly what they were up to. They were all really friendly in there though and I sure if you explained what you wanted to do they would let you have a go on one. Great factory though, I wish I had more time to have had a better look around.
Thanks smile Hope you're very happy with your new Canyon! Which did you go for?

Your description sounds inline with the set up I imagined there. I think, if I go, I'll drop them an email beforehand to check my size would be available for test riding and asking how far/long I could go for. A spin round a flat car park is better than sitting on one in a showroom but I'll ask if there's any chance of taking one out for an extended ride on some undulating terrain, just in case they say yes.

It was a toss up between the Aeroroad and Ultimate CF, but I went for the Ultimate CF SLX 8.0 Di2 in the end. With the travel there and back I saved approx £350 so worth making the effort to drive there and back. (Long way on your own though if your mate blows you out on the road trip!!)

I personally don't think you'd enjoy testing on the roads around Koblenz, it was in the middle of the city and it was pretty busy with all the cars.
Beautiful bike. I'd do the same if I bought, buy in Euros and go pick it up. I'm well used to the driving distance from the UK, having worked and lived in Stuttgart for a year in a previous life but always having to pop back here for one reason or another, so that doesn't bother me. Did they swap the brake cables over for you or will you do that yourself?

You haven't even taking delivery of that lovely Xeon yet! I don't want to sound like Mrs BCM but shouldn't you give it a few months before you start looking at new bikes again? hehe

Just remembered this thread. To answer my own question, you can test ride around the car park but no further. No need to make an appointment, just grab a salesperson in the showroom. They seemed to have each size in each model but not each in groupset, which didn't bother me as I just wanted to get a feel for the difference in stack and reach between an Ultimate and an Endurace. Just don't get there before 10am, or you'll be waiting outside until they open.

Seeing as we're talking test rides, if it's Rose that interests you don't bother with Bike Town Munich. It's just a double-fronted concept store in a shopping mall. It's Bike Town Bocholt you want. There they have a four storey emporium with all models available for test ride, again around the car park.
