Updated 18/11/15

Some of us that rode this year's Revolve 24 at Brands Hatch had such a good time we thought we'd do it again, but on an even more iconic track...

Rad am Ring. 30/07/2016 - 31/07/2016. A 24 hour relay race around the combined Nordschliefe and GP track, making a 26km lap with 580m climbing. Strava segment

2016 entries just opened. There are various options, but we think the 4-man team is the way to go. One lap stints during the day, and either one or two lap laps stints at night (to get double rest). We'll be camping trackside and will be catching the 1150 Eurotunnel Shuttle over on Friday the 29th. Return when you wish, either Sunday night or stay another day and drive a Touristfahrt lap or six on Monday first.

I initially registered two teams in the expectation we'd get at least enough confirmed riders to fill them, which we now have. If we get another four people we can register a third team. Another four after that, a fourth team. And so on. Although you can also register as pairs, teams of eight or do it solo, if that's your preference.

PH Rad squad:
1. CoolC
3. EddH
3. JSquaredJim
4. JustinF
5. Pablo
6. Pembo
7. SPB
8. Usget

Plus Johno_78 doing it solo!

Waiting List for Team 3
9. Pembo's +1
10. Seek
11.
12.

Promises to be a first-rate weekend. Post on this thread if you want in and we'll add you to the list for the next team.

If you fancy a solo effort, you'd be very welcome to pitch up with us too. There's even a simultaneous 24 hour MTB race for those that prefer dirt to tarmac.

When registering their entry, each team has to choose a 'parcel' (a trackside plot on which to set up their pit and camp) and the best located ones are going fast.

I'll edit this post as we go to keep it up to date but do read through the thread for more details too!

That was agreed after we got you drunk! biggrin

Same as last year, double stint at night gives approx 6 hours continuous rest rather than 3, so a chance to grab some half decent kip.

Not that it, or anything else, is set in stone.

Edit - We could even have one team sticking to 1 on / 3 off throughout the 24 hours, if there are 4 people that would prefer that.

Happy to go with the consensus view. But if there's a split of preferences we could just arrange the teams accordingly.

I have a few ideas in the pipeline for next year's cycling to do list.

This has just found it's way to the top of said list.
Would be an honour to have you in the team, Martin. More than once last year I took on a longer, steeper or longer and steeper ride than I'd done before after thinking "What would Johno do?". It was your Tour de PH ride that taught me that just because you haven't done something before doesn't mean you can't do it. A 24 hour team needs no more inspiration than that. thumbup

Are you going to have fun, or compete... or both?
Good question. What CoolC said, we'll try as hard as we can but enjoy ourselves at the same time.

We'll have a range of abilities, and we could organise ourselves in one of two different ways. If we had four fast riders with a chance of a win we could have a fast team and a steady team. Or we could distribute the fast riders equally between the teams so we have two equal teams that could work together on track, and both do better than they would individually. Depends what people want to do.

To give you an idea, this is a shot I took of a typical motivational message being held out to one of the team at Brands:

In the blurb on the event website they talked about speeds of 100 km/h being possible through the Foxhole. I was taking that with a pinch of salt, but your experience tells me they weren't exaggerating. eek

I might not match that myself but it's not going to be a dull, flat and windswept lap, that's for sure! smile

^ Funnily enough I'll be in Feltre the week immediately following that, ahead of the GF Sportful. I did float the idea of the 24H amongst the gang, but no-one bit. If there's any interest here though....

I've been told that I should do it by the missus, so i'll ink my name over the pencil. I'm tempted by a solo effort, but will have to see how well winter training goes before deciding.
Good lady you've got there! Excellent news smile Big respect to you for considering the solo option. But if anyone can...

Quick question though: I'm filling the two places in the teams I've already paid for on first come first served. Just so I know where I stand in offering them to people, which way would you like to play it? Do you want to buy into the team for now to lock in your place, and if you do decide to go for the solo effort then offer the team place back up? Or register yourself solo/leave the decision until later, and if you decide not to solo then join the waiting list on here for team n?

And one more definite now (useget), so that's one space remaining in the current teams.

Once that's gone, as I say, we'll maintain a waiting list on this thread and whenever there's enough on it for another team we can register another, subject to event spaces still being available.

Good news, everyone. Looks like entry is going to work out a bit cheaper: £75 each. smile

Also we're organising ourselves into car shares (for those that want to) to cut the travel cost each. Incidentally, the tunnel is currently around £115 return per car but people should book it soon, it *will* go up.

If people wanted to go 4 in a car, it should be possible to get across the channel and drive there and back for not much over £50 each. Two per car might be more practical though, but people can decide what suits them best.

^^ also, Pablo's figures are if you *don't* car share. Don't forget to divide the petrol and fuel by however many are in the car smile

2 in car:
Tunnel £60
Fuel £50

4 in car:
Tunnel £30
Fuel £25

Six Pot, did you get my message?
I'm working towards it but as I'm getting married a month after the event I will need to keep the costs down as much as possible. If there is a space in a 4/3 person car that I can take I'm in, just let me know what I need to do to secure the space.
Sure did, sent you a reply as soon as I got it. Maybe the email on your profile isn't current any more (It's xxxxx@hotmail.com). Or it was a problem my end. Either way, it explains wht I didn't get a repsonse. I was starting to wonder if it was something I'd said! biggrin

Anyway, got you a place lined up in a car from Chelmsford (you're Ipswich IIRC?) at the mo' , but there's only two of you in it so far. They are other options though, so we should be able to work out something to suit.

I can definitely receive your mails, so send me one quoting your email and I'll resend the mail directly to that, and also give you the payment details for the £75. If you also include your mobile number we'll get you added to our Rad chat group on WhatsApp.

Welcome to the Team smile

Sorry, my typo in the above post. it was .co.uk. Not the first time I've had trouble with the PH mail system, though. There must be a SPB-spam filter frown

OK, that's all 8 places on the first two teams filled. Which will help Johno_78 in his decision as to whether to solo or not. Go on, go on!

Anyone interested in a team place should still post. When we have enough for a third team I can either talk you through registering it yourselves and paying direct, or you can give me your details, pay me, and I'll do it for you. Whatever you'd prefer.

Some of the social cycling group that I cycle with are thinking of entering. Saying that our logistics would be a little more complicated as we have to fly to Germany 1st, then drive to the Nurburgring.....

Not sure SWMBO will be to happy as I will be working away from home substantially for periods of monthly intervals next year and hoping to get to the Bathurst 12hr car race in February. Still 50/50 chance of a yes......
Coming from The Sandpit? Fly into Cologne/Bonn if you can, Frankfurt am Main if you can't. Hire a crew cab Vito and you're sorted.

We'll be on D-087 and D-088. If you guys do enter be sure to come and say hello byebye
