Hi - is anybody doing the Wiggle New Forest this weekend? I'm having some issues with differences between what the climb/distance says on their PDF, and what their Garmin files actually show! It's my first Sportive so I'm umm'ing and ahh'ing between the middle distance and the Epic, so the distance and climbing are particularly relevant !!!!

Thanks!

Hi all - would be good to get some hellos as I'm new to this road riding business! I'll keep an eye out for PH shirts smile Not that it'll help massively but I'm a girl (well ok I'm too old to be considered a girl anymore, anywhere except in my own head) on a white Trek Silque with a white Kask lid. Probably wearing a white Malojo top with a black picture on it and black shorts. Maybe bright coloured sleeves. Riding with a male mate and maybe 1-2 other people.

I think in km, and I rode 86km on Sunday with 1000km climbing around the Surrey Hills and that was enough.... still got one sore calf.. just for context smile

The Wiggle variation is significant in terms of the climbing involved. So which would you believe - the PDF document with the ride profile in it, or the Garmin files they've published this week (they seem to have been updated last night):

PDF pre-ride doc says the following:
Standard = 103km, 820m climbing
Epic = 162km, 1433m climbing

This week's Garmin says:
Standard = 103km, 573m climbing
Epic = 162km, 1067m climbing

(Last week's Garmin said:
Standard = 126km, 1080m climbing
Epic = 160km, 1500m climbing)

So it's all over the place. If I ignore last week's Garmin, that leaves me with still quite a difference between the PDF's opinion and Garmin's opinion of the climbing - 820m vs 573m, or 1433m vs 1067m. Quite a difference!

I'm currently thinking to do the standard but aim for a good finish time.....

Wow, I think 1000km climbing would make most peoples legs ache wink
on a more serious note, is anyone else doing it on Saturday then? I'll be wearing blue on a silver CAADX, desperately trying to keep up with my mate on his carbon giant.
Haha oops !!!!!!

I'm there Saturday, I think I've decided to do the Standard route though, not the Epic.

Leave even earlier! last year the traffic queue to get in delayed our start by 90 mins!
Oh I hadn't thought of that! How long did you sit in traffic for? We're driving there from Surrey...

Just received this in answer to my email query yesterday. Explains things !!!! (although doesn't explain the discrepancy between their PDF version of climbing and the Garmin version, but I've given up trying to understand that! Currently PDF says 1359 climbing on the epic (Garmin says 985m), 774m on the standard (Garmin says 523m))

"Thank you for contacting us.
Yes due to complications with feed stations and safety reasons along a section of the route, the overall route and mileage was required to change.
We have now posted this on social media and let all the rider know of this alteration. The final route has now been added to the pre-event information attached for you.

Yes you can change your route from what you signed up to from the standard to epic and visa versa. You can do this easily on the day of the event. Just let the member of staff at the registration desk know and they will change this for you. Alternatively if you decide along the route, just follow the appropriate signage and let us know at the finish line so we can change this on your timing record."

Looking forward to it! Bike is fixed, hopefully my body will be up to the job, and should be a good day smile Might be wearing a black Morvelo top with a panther and a rose on the back, but if I see a PH top I'll wave. So don't be surprised !!!!

I'll be there doing the epic one.. didn't really look at the climbing before signing up so expecting a bit of pain!

Will probably have my PH jersey on so say ello if you see me / pass!
I think I saw you at the first food stop? Saw a PH jersey, was about to say hello and a moment of "what if it's not the same person he'll think I'm a nutter" and then the moment passed!

Good day out - we saw a big queue of cars still coming in after we had started on the ride, but we pretty much drove straight in, signed on, got bike from the car and set off. Nice amount of people around until we split off for the Standard route and it got a lot quieter - maybe they were all in the queue of people still trying to get in ! We did it in 4 hours in the end, plus 18 minutes of stoppages which is about double what I hoped for - the stoppages, not the riding time! Would've been a bit quicker but something went in my knee about 10k before the end so was pretty much one legged cycling redface

Hope you all had fun!
