Can anyone recommend suitable road tyres for my 29er MTB currently running 2.25" Maxxis Ardents? I'm using it as my winter bike right now (just bought a lovely Orbea Avant road bike but it's far too nice to be riding at this time of year) and would like to do some longer on-road rides as well as getting muddy!

Budget would be £50ish for the pair and I'd like them to be as puncture resistant as possible. Many thanks smile

I won't go out in the snow so looks like Schwalbe Marathon Plus is the answer.

Two questions, is this the tyre tread pattern you all mean?

And would 700x32 or 700x35 be the better size for my 29er wheels?

Thanks chaps, much appreciated. I've ordered the Schwalbe MPs in 700x35 this morning smile

Big thanks to everyone who recommended the 700c x 35 SMPs beer

Had a great ride out today, a nice 70/30 mixture of road/bridleways and they were superb, fast but still grippy and confidence inspiring in the wet and muddy conditions. Excuse the terrible photo but they do look slightly odd on the bike after taking off the 2.25 Maxxis jobs laugh

Worst "I need a road bike as well as my MTB but too scared of lycra/wife won't let me" thread ever
Wrong on both counts I'm afraid! I've got a rather lovely Orbea Avant M30d road bike but the roads around Wiltshire and West Oxfordshire are so cacked in ste at this time of year though, there's no way I'm riding it until the weather picks up!
