Cyclescheme has started - what bike?

I'm looking for a road bike to complement my Hybrid. I currently have a Giant CRS which i love, but i want something lighter and designed for road use only.

I plan to just cycle for training - not commuting. Max distance will be about 35 miles. The local shop has recommended the Giant Defy 4.

I have about £500 to spend but this is flexible for the right bike.

Any other suggestions?

I really like the look of the current Giant Defy range. I can definatly afford the Defy 4, perhaps the 3.5 and possibly the 3.

Reviews on the web look good too.
