I'm learning british sign language, and we are studying 'transport' at the moment.

I was surprised to see that there is a sign for drag racing, as quite a lot of non-mainstream things don't have signs and just get spelled. Anyway, nothing could have prepared me for the sight of three deaf helpers signing it in unison!

Before I explain it, anyone guess how you'd sign 'drag racing'? You're allowed 5 movements maximum.

p.s. 'real ale' is two moves - pretend you're pulling a hand pump, then drinking a pint. Easy!

Ok...guess number one....

Roll hands around like a 70's dancer.... followed by much flapping outwards from the chest!

Nope - but good guess. When explained it'll seem entirely logical. Honest.

Not the right answer, but a good one nonetheless! (edited to add: I probably owe you a pint for making me laugh quite a lot)

Craggers - be interested to know your signs - I've noticed that the signs for things are different in different regions. My southern-signing friend was very confused by the northern sign for 'biscuit'.

Hairydave has the first step correct.
Clue: the second step is miming a burnout.

Ok, bear with me as photos would help but I think I've packed my camera.

1. Make driving motions with hands on mock steering wheel.
2. Flap both hands (one either side) as if waving burnout smoke away.
3. Push right hand forwards whilst holding left hand clenched on left side.
4. Wave right pointy finger in a poor imitation of a tachometer.
5. Make the BSL sign for exit/way out (left hand flat, palm down in front of you, right hand points and zooms under left hand away from you).

Where's a webcam and Youtube when you need it?
