I was at Santa Pod on sunday for the Ultimate BMW Show and for £20 you could have as many goes as you liked. Never done it before but was a lot of fun. 16.60 @ 84mph was my best. Near standard 325i auto with a chip.

Launch technique was left foot on the brake, let it creep until I lit the pre-stage and staged light then hold it with the left while the right hovered over the throttle. Hitting the throttle on the ambers still gave me a shabby .4958 rt, still nailed the 735i to the tree though hehe

If the other driver had not staged, I tried to build some revs then release the brake and mash the throttle on the amber.

you need a shift kit and higher stall converter, speak to mr frost (red victor) as slush boxes are his speciality.
Red Victor, the fastest door slammer in the country ? not sure he would be intersted in a 325i touring. I wouldn't mind a tougher box as I would like something able to take 300hp

some slicks on the back
Not a problem, I have a second set of wheels, could stick a pair of slicks on them. Apparently E30's are difficult to tub so 9" would be the max.

Im not LSD, but to be honest I would not do this to my car are its my only driver, im thinking of a project I have on the back burner.

Sounds to me like the bug has taken a gentle bite!
It took a gentle bite years ago whan I was running Mk1 cortinas. Steve Green was my hero with his red Mk1 before it got painted in the wolf colours.

Are you going to tell us what it is?
Its a project that I have had on the back burner for a couple of years. I love BMW E30 touring's and Hartge (German tuning company). I believe that Hartge made an E30 touring as a promotional vehicle to promote their rally car. see pic in link

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... I build a Hartge touring replica

The thing is, it was just made to look pretty and not actually do anything. So whatever I wanted to do to the interior and under the skin would not be an issue regarding originality of the orignal verhicle.

Over the years I have managed to source the wheels, front and rear spoilers and sideskirts. I could proably buy the car and fit the body kit, wheels and graphics and that would be enough to create the replica as I assume it was standard inside. The idea was, I already have a nice E30 touring so the Hartge replica could be put to use on track days, sprints, hillclimbs etc in which case it would need to be a manual. Never thought about putting it on the drag strip

stage, hard on the brake, then hit the throttle, load up the converter, release brake on the last amber......whhheeeeeeee
Thats what tried to do, actaualy pushed myself though the beams once by not applying ehough brake. Also they were running a Pro Tree not Sportsman so I hit the throttle when all three lights lit at the same time.

Hmmmm

The devil is in the detail. Hartge rebranded and used a new typeface after the E30 so the graphics would need to be reproduced from the original car not the mock up you posted. See pic

So far I have spent two & half years searching for period parts for my car and the future project.

I need to stress that what I want to make is a replica of the car used to promote the rally car, it will NOT be a replica of the rally car. I know sick and twisted mentality, but it gives me free rein to do what I like to the interior, engine, gearbox ets and I don't have so follow any set rules.

8 years on and I was back at Santa Pod for the Ultimate BMW Show and thought I would have another go.
Nailed a 5 series to to the tree, he got me back due to double the engine size.
