What is the best year for the s2000? I have seen an 03 reg , 60000 miles , I may change the alloys on it.

The 2009 problems were only on imports , from what I have heard . UK models were fine. I am still undecided on the gt hard top or soft top version ?

Definitely UK models were affected including the "last 100 series"........
Have been shown the figures from honda and all of them were imports, nothing wrong with the 2009.

Thanks - I'll tell my friend who had an engine fail on his 2009 MY "Edition 100" S2000 that it's not a UK model after all then!
Damn it!!! I was at the point of buying an 09 reg, have been put right off now , wonder if this is common then.

This is a 33 page thread over on S2ki that contains a lot of info on the matter.

I don't know a lot about the situation, but maybe you can confirm on that thread that the 2008 cars are okay and buy one of those instead?
Thanks for this, makes an interesting read . I am glad my attention has been brought to this . I am shocked Honda said to me there has never been any engine faults recorded. Very disappointed.

Thanks guys, I'm glad I have seen this . Thank god I didn't end up spending my hard earned cash on this. In a way I'm pleased that I asked the question . Really grateful .

S2000 is not a bad car but there was an issue with 2009 (and maybe 2008) engine builds. An earlier car will be fine. Something like this maybe (best get low mileage as the engine is going to be pretty well worn at 100k on this model):

£13000 for a 2006 model , over priced, yes low mileage , I would say £10000 tops for that from a dealer.

Granted that's low mileage for the year but way overpriced. I've just bought a Sept 06, 56 plate car with a very full Honda service history for £6,300 from a private seller. Mileage is 88k but I'd sooner buy higher mileage with a good history than a car that might have only been used once in a blue moon or only for short trips. Anyway, 88k over 7.5 years is no worse than average.

I've had the car for about 3 weeks and everything feels very fit. I know you can never be sure what kind of driver had the car in the past but I'm beginning to suspect that whoever it was seldom, if ever, explored north of 6000rpm. Time will tell but so far, so good!
Agree mate. I have been scared off getting an 09 plate , but a mate of mine who's a mechanic, says the s2000s are bomb proof, and on the s2k forum they only talk doom and gloom , with only 1 problem with the s2000 in a thousand and that's all they talk about. Not my words by the way.

I keep seeing comments about the lower cost of the road fund licence on earlier cars but I looked into this before buying mine and according to the government web site the cut of date is cars registered before 1st March 2001. Everything registered after that date is in the higher band, i.e. £485 for 12 months. See http://carfueldata.dft.gov.uk/new-vehicle-tax.aspx....

Am I missing something or has the cut off date changed?
Anything pre march 2006 is lower tax band 275 or 285 can't remember and then after March 2006 it's an eye watering £485 a year.

Lots of reading over the last day, even the 03 reg suffered, it has been confirmed that the 09 reg had problems , how minor and how many models I don't know but it's not filling me with a lot of joy.

Has anyone out there got a 2009 reg s2000 that they are happy with?

04-06! Why do people always forget about the 04? The 04 is exactly the same as the 05, facelift and all the enhancements. I feel undervalued in my awesome 04 smile
04 is a great year. I am getting my 09 tomorrow , although it has an 08 chassis and. 08 engine , the car sailed through its mot and service, new tyres , brake pads, discs, new oil , it's looking mint.

Lovely. I wanted a black one but couldn't turn down the deal on my Moonrock. Unless I'm mistaken, all S2000s from 07 onwards had those 5 spoke wheels. Like this?

That's them mate , the moonrock is a stunning colour , I had a hard choice buying the 09 reg but this car has never had a problem, fsh everything seems fine . It's the gt but can take off roof and turns into a roadster.

I never see s2000s on the road very rare, I bet people won't know what the car is, I remember taking it for a test drive and people were pointing at it
