Help! EP3 Alarm driving me insane!

My wife left the interior light on Friday evening which drained an already rubbish battery so I bought a new battery yesterday.
But as soon as I try to connect it the alarm (which I didn't even know it had) makes a horrific high pitched noise.
I've tried locking and unlocking the doors with the key and the fob but it doesn't stop.
How can I connect the battery so the alarm doesn't send everyone within a mile radius insane or how can I make the alarm stop once the battery is connected?
