Too rich?

Been offered an 05 car, mileage in the low 60's, very clean and with some bits like mapped Hondata K100.

Any comments? Can't make up my mind whether it's good value or not. I know of a similar car that went for 5k two weeks ago but didn't have Hondata and such.

Not a special edition. Does have air-conditioning though!

Full history, 3 previous owners and valve clearances checked (which considering the low mileage, says something about how the car has been looked after, imo)

Condition, bar the odd chip here and there is extremely good.

Thing is, I have form in buying cars at top prices then taking a bath at resale!

I'm trying to avoid that here :-)

I won't put more than 3k on it over the course of a year. Which means this time next year, it'll still be significantly under 70k. Surely I'd get my money back?

True, but A) I don't want an FN2 and B) 5.2k will be scraping the barrel of FN2's, IMO.

I can't see it losing much if anything, assuming you are buying and selling privately.
Missed this. Yep, buying and selling privately.

There's easily a grand's worth of good extras on the car too - all less than a year old.

Well, I didn't get it frown

Seller agreed with me at £5.2k, but someone came along tonight and offered him more than that and he sold it. Gah.

Price started at 6.2, then down to 5.7 and then 5.5.

Final selling price was apparently 5350, and the seller got to keep all standard bits to sell on.

Buyer was a 15min drive away, I'm 8hrs!

There are quite a few for sale for CTRO, although they may not be what you are after. I think you may know that already though as I think I have spotted the car you were looking at which just sold wink
Yep, there's nothing on CTRO that interests me currently, and yes, you've probably spotted the one I was talking about.

Really? I suspect the market for a £7.5k UK car is going to be small.

Bloody hell and here was me thinking 5.2k was a bit expensive for a UK car!

I don't think it's worth that, but that's just my opinion:-)

That's getting into DC5 and S2K territory.

I'm sure it's a cracking example though!

Hi Jimi

We are talking about a car here with 48K miles, a premier edition with FHSH. Under Honda warranty its just had: major service including plugs, 2nd gear syncro done, complete new clutch, brand new steering rack, x4 oem tyres, discs and pads all round (3K bill alone for that work)-car is like new and bone dry underneath - its worth 7.5K all day long.
Btw, 2nd gear sync, new clutch and new steering rack and it's only done 48k?!

Tbh, that would have alarm bells ringing for me.

Why? Its a 2 owner car and all been done under Honda warranty : ) I haven't spent a penny.

While they were doing the 2nd gear syncro they also did the clutch - when the previous owner owned the car. I wasn't happy with the steering - there was a knock. "No problem Sir, bring it back and we will sort it". Its under warranty till March 17. Anything it needs it will have whilst under Honda warranty.
It's the fact that it needed done in the first place, particularly the clutch.

Extrapolating the info; the car is currently on 48k, and the clutch was changed prior to your ownership - that rings alarm bells to me in respect of how the car has been driven.

That might just be me though!

Also, I'm genuinely amazed that someone offered you £7.5k for the car. Whoever offered it is one of a small handful of people willing to pay that for an EP3, imo.

Well, a non supercharged / non JDM car anyway.

Assuming it's as good as he seller says it is, that's 4.2k (or possibly less, Witt some haggle) for a 2005 car, with 67k and some interesting bits.

I'm amazed.

Really, I am.

Who the %£&) pays anywhere near that for an EP3?!

Honestly I'm actually LOL'ing at this but I'm gonna gracefully bow out of the price discussion coz clearly I'm wrong and there actually *are* folk daft enough to pay upwards of £7k for a bog standard UK EP3.
