At long last I have finally got my track project E46 M3 ready to go! woo hooo

I want to get out there asap but wanted to get peoples advice on a couple of things.

1) I am a novice, I have been around a track, done a few experience days but never been out there in my own car. The closet circuit to me is Castle Combe (literally 10 mins if that from my house) but I have been there lots of times before, and see that there is really ZERO run off..... is this really a good circuit to start on? I am thinking maybe an airfield shake down might be best? I have had a search but there doesn't seem to be a session at Hullavington for a while frown - thoughts?

2) I need a helmet - what are peoples thoughts on this? http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/helmets/s... - I was thinking Carbon as I want it to be light but as its not full face will it really cause me problems I if I want to go for a ride in a mates Atom?

thanks!

so an update!

i did my first proper track day in the M3 last Friday at Castle Combe and it was BLOODY BRILLIANT!

Reason i chose CC was 1) it was 10 mins drive, 2) FREE ARDS tuition all day (i had 4 sessions), 3) Sunny all day

Yes it was a little daunting first session, but afterwards once i had learnt the track it was fantastic, a great circuit that you just have to treat with respect..

roll on the next day smile

Nice one!
Now the bug has bitten you won't be able to keek away!
Better go warn the bank manager.

Was there anything on your car that stood out immediately as needing improvement?
Without a doubt it was the stty Delinte and some other random crap brand of tyres that the previous owner fitted!! I didn't want to buy new tyres because I am going to change to a square setup asap, but didn't have time to get them before the day!

Otherwise the M3 held up really well, the new discs/pads/braided lines/fluid and powerflex bushes all worked a treat. I was seriously impressed by the brakes and to be fair the whole car...

its going to be getting a few upgrades now though to help a little smile
