I've never been, but Anglesey looks like a great circuit to drive. Especially for a lightweight car with modest power. Anyone here with an Elise or similar have experience of the track.
The thing is, I live in Northampton, and there are many circuits I can get to more easily, such as Silverstone, Donington, Cadwell & Brands Hatch.
So, is it worth the trip? I don't have a trailer, so it's a long old trip in a trackday car. I should add that I don't enjoy trackdays in the rain, and I assume it's more likely than not to rain?

I've done Cadwell on a motorbike, but never a car. I plan to include it next year.
However, I suspect a lap of Cadwell would be spent in people's way, or waiting for a chance to overtake. Anglesey looks wide enough to allow cars to overtake more easily.

You guys are talking me into it. Maybe I'll look for a date in July or August. At least then there's a 15% chance of it being dry.
At the meeting moment I'm thinking 2017 will include Brands GP, Cadwell, Silverstone GP, Donington, Bedford, and Anglesey. And perhaps the Hethel test circuit.

Scrap Bedford and go to Rockingham instead.
Or Oulton.

Or Snetterton.
Agreed but I'd picked Rockingham as it is frequently overlooked and only a short run from the much overrated Bedford.
I use Bedford as a cheap local alternative to Silverstone. Rockingham is about the same distance and journey time, but I've never felt any great desire to try it. When I watch onboard videos threre isn't anything that excites me.

As for Oulton Park, isn't that in the country known as "oop north"? Seriously though I know it has a reputation as being a great circuit, and I will give it a go, but probably not next year.
The reason for the thread is that it's easy to find opinions on the merits of most of the UK's circuits, but it's harder to find people who have an opinion on Anglesey.

I just googled the time for travelling from Northampton to Cadwell Park and Brands Hatch (two tracks you suggested were local enough to travel to in your OP) and they both came out at 2&1/2 hours.

Time from Northampton to Oulton Park? 2&1/2 hours.

I understand your query about Anglesey and I think most of the answers on here are entirely correct. I'm not so sure about your reasons for avoiding Oulton and Rockingham, they are both well worth a trip compared to Bedford (or Brands come to that).
Sorry, I hadn't intended to be dismissive of Oulton. I know it's not as far as Anglesey, and it's a straightforward motorway journey. I don't tend to think of Brands as being that far because it's a part of the world I visit often. I also find myself in Norfolk and Lincolnshire on occasion, so Snetterton and Cadwell are journeys I am familiar with. But somehow I never find myself in the Northwest, hence the 'oop north' jest.
I'm trying to put together a trackday budget for 2017. If I don't do Anglsey, there's a good chance I'll do Oulton instead. However I really would like to give the Anglsey circuit a go. It looks like my idea of fun, and a good match for my car.

So you haven't tried it but you don't like it? confused
Yes. I'm judgmental like that. wink

Actually you make a good point. Bedford isn't that special, it's just local. Normally I just book a day at Bedford in between more interesting trackdays. So I should give Rockinhgam a chance. I'll seriously consider it when I'm looking at dates during the year.

Worth signing up with Lotus-On-Track if you're not already a member (and take a look at '2017 diary dates' thread at the forum).
I joined L-o-T for the first time this year. Did three trackdays and a CarLimits airfield day. All very enjoyable. I will certainly be doing 2 or 3 next year, but some of the tracks I'd like to do are on dates that don't suit me unfortunately.

If you're in a lightweight car like an Elise or caterfield, it's a great track. Coastal is the best layout - GP just adds abit of point and quirt, and robs you of the corkscrew.

It's still flat though, so it's no Cadwell. In a Caterham that's my fave track bar none - so rewarding when you get the flat left / turn once and apex 3 corners later at full throttle bit right.
That corkscrew section really appeals to me. My car is fairly light with modest power, so that's the sort of thing that should suit it well.

I didn't think it was that flat? I was under the impression there was a bit of elevation.

I've come from Ireland to race a 993 RSR and Elise at Anglesey, also done Trackdays there. It's a superb track and the widest track in the UK I believe ( Silverstone ?)

Fast and needs skill.
Wide is good. I realise it may remove some of the 'challenge', but in my experience it relieves some of the frustration on a trackday. It makes it easier to pass each other without risk. On a narrow track faster cars may have to wait most of the lap for a safe passing place.
For example at Silverstone recently I was passed by a couple of supercharged Atoms through the Maggots/Beckets complex. I knew they were comming and was able to let them past without any risk because the track is so wide. What I didn't expect was the Radical that followed them as I transitioned from Beckets to Chapel. I hadn't seen him at all. On a narrow track that would have been a real problem.
