I'm looking for abit of advice about how I can reclaim the VAT for tools I have purchased myself for work, I've had a look at various websites but cannot find a solid answer.
I've spent over £1500 in the last 6 months so there is over £300 in VAT that I should be entitled to claim back. There are plenty of companies advertising this service but they all take some sort of fee + upto 20% of the rebate for what looks like forwarding a couple of forms and my receipts to HMRC.

Any useful advice is much appreciated.

Are you a self-employed, VAT registered business?

Or are you just an employee?
Just an employee of a small independent garage.

Im in the same boat. I had to send a letter stating what tools i have to buy, along with all your personal details. This was on friday so i will let you know the outcome.

You can state if you want your tax code lowering or a cheque. I asked for cheque due to back payment for the last 4 years.
Excellent, cheers.
I would opt for a cheque too as I've all ready had months of grief over my tax code.
