As the title highlights this is a thread about path through life and therefore should not be moved to the employment matters forum.

I'm currently working for Ford on a 3 month placement and hoping to get on their grad scheme, for which the assessment centre is next Tuesday. I went for an assessment centre for a back-up job with PSA today and got offered the job but they want me to start on Monday, meaning I either accept the PSA one and take the safe option or turn it down and risk it for the Ford job?!. Nooooow, Ford pays a considerable amount more than PSA and is the company I would like to work for, but I'm tempted to take the PSA job because its guaranteed employment and if I turn it down and don't get the other job, well I'm screwed!

So what do people think I should do and are there any tales of the less attractive choice working out, or big gambles paying off? I need some inspiration right now...

oh and I appreciate I sound like a for complaining about choosing between 2 jobs, but hey, what ya going to do? biggrin

Don't know what PSA is or what it entails, but can you not accept the job then see what happens with the Ford one? If you get offered from Ford, jump ship and move to them then?
PSA is Peugeot Citroen and I cant really because my internship doesn't finish for another few weeks, so I would have to quit only to try and rejoin straight away...don't think that would go down too well!

Thanks for all the replies. Just to updaate I spoke to PSA and explained that I would not be able to give them a decision at such short notice and could let them know next week. They told me that they needed a decision by the end of the day, as they needed someone to start asap, and that pretty much made my mind up.

And so despite everyone telling me it was the wrong choice I declined the job. Despite the fact I might come to regret it in the next couple of weeks, I feel it's the right thing to do as I would rather take a risk with my current job, which I love, then end up in a job I don't like, and besides I'm (relatively) young and so have plenty of time to sort things out if they go tits up.

Thanks once again for the advice everyone!

Another update:

Went to the Ford assessment centre on Monday and it was a long and hard day. There were some great candidates there, and I wasn't confident that I'd performed that well. So imagine my surprise when I came to work yesterday and was offered the job.

Absolutely buzzing still, and glad that the risk paid off!! So roll on the future biggrin
