How would an employer regard someone withdrawing from an interview?

Reckon it would mark my card for a future similar application in circa 4 months?

It's an internal post which I've very little chance of getting and is going to cause me several issues attending.

Thoughts?

The problem is attending.

I'm already working away. Means additional two days away from home. I've no suitable clothes with me and I had already made arrangements.

Add to that one of the candidates used to do the job prior to a promotion, another has been doing it for the last three months. I know the system, I've no chance of getting it.

Am thinking that but I'll be applying for a similar if not the same job in 3 months time under a reorganisation.

The panel doing the interview is the same panel doing the reorganisation.

How likely are they to bank this and hold it against me?

It was a case of you better apply, or else.

It'll be your own fault if you don't apply and don't end up with anything.

Hardy a recommendation, just the usual decisive bullying management behaviour

Dream up a cast iron reason why you can't go, and tell then them that due to (whatever) you regret being unable to attend, but you hope to get another chance in the near future.
I think I'll go with this. I'll hapily go if I they're willing to change the date and don't mind me wearing my night shift jeans & trainers.

Should add I'll get nearly £200 pay for attending as it's additional to my basic hours.

Cheers for the advice all.

Had a chat with my line manager and he reckons my cards would be marked if I withdrew.

Think i've sorted it.
Emailed the more amenable of the managers/panel explaining difficulties attending with current shift pattern/ attire etc.

Asked if there was any opportunity to bring the interview forward. They were sympathetic and are looking at it for me.

If I do get a bash at it i'll give it my all, you never know something may come out of it.

Glad you bumped this, i'd forgotten i'd posted it.

Couldn't ammend the interview time not were they moveable on clothing.
Had to go an buy shirt, tie etc and stay an extra two days. Got away about 1700 Fri just in time for M1 rush hour traffic.

For some bizarre reason, I got the job! Very pleasantly surprised.

Quite pleased but not sure of the motivations behind it.
Both the old and the new job are about to go into reorg anyway.

Got a verbal offer of the job Friday after the interview. On the Tuesday got notice the post is no longer required and I need to apply for another post.

Oh well, at least my CV is up to date!
