Morning all,

Posting under a new name as I'm in a bit of a pickle - albeit a good one.

So essentially I've been offered a new role by a new company, it's a maternity cover but in terms of reposnsibility it is a step up and in terms of company it is a big progressive multi-national with good working hours, benefits and reputation.

I am however torn as I would be leaving a permanent role, in an industry I care about but probably won't stay in forever.

I am planning on doing some travelling next year (March/April) so maternity doesn't massivley phase me.

I've listed the positives and negatives of each role below:

Current

+ Interesting industry that I care about
+ Good brand on CV
+ Will complete over a year if I stay (I have a few short term roles on CV)
+ Well respected and liked
- Long hours
- Regular weekend working
- Challenging workload, not challenging work

New

+ Chance to apply my skillset to a new industry
+ 15% pay rise (Though I could equal this in current role with bonus)
+ Shorter and more flexible hours and no weekends
+ 20% shorter commute
+ More senior role
- Job hop on CV (5 months) - moved around quite a bit before too
- Only for 6 months
- Less interesting brand/industry - maybe more interesting job
- It's maternity cover
- Is the grass greener?

Essentially, it's a really tough call and I'm right in the middle with no particular feeling either way. I've done this really as an exercise of writing down pro's and con's but I would really appreciate any feedback from those who've faced similar choices or have any wise words.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice Volition. I've got 3 stints on my CV or just over a year so I guess potentially adding two more 6 month stints could be perceived badly.

The new role is within heavy industry and b2b which will likely prove more lucrative in the future. Might be an opportunity i shouldn't pass up.

Thanks for the advice Du1point8,

Really the plan is to go travelling around March as GF's contract ends etc so it's a good time. Obviously things can change so security could be useful. I'm not sure if haveing 6 months experience in the new industry would benefit more than having two short jobs on my CV, if you see what I mean.

There is a good possibility of it being extended in some way should i wish.

It's such a close call whenever I weigh up the two options.
