Offshore Production Operator
Discussion
Afternoon all.
Very interested in a drastic career change and the idea of getting into offshore oil production really appeals to me. Don't have much of a technical background, I did do a City & Guilds in CNC Operation many years ago, but I've mostly worked in Sales since. If it helps at all I have a BSc Business degree so a high degree of numeracy.
I understand working in a refinery or similar is a better trodden path into this but since I don't live anywhere near a refinery and am aiming to go offshore in the long run I'm hoping to get straight into the offshore market first and work my way up from there.
Not shy of a hard days' work and going in as a roustabout, and realise this will mean putting myself through MIST, BOSIET etc. Also been looking at the introductory courses Petrofac offer after a recommendation from someone in the industry, but they are a lot to shell out if it doesn't lead to anything!
Interested in hearing anyone's thoughts on what my chances are of getting a start and moving my career in this direction, being already in my 30s without relevant offshore experience or qualifications. Or anything else I can do in the mean time to improve my chances.
Thanks in advance
