New job....new team.

Despite planning a summer of lounging around, I seem to have landed a pretty good job starting next Friday. The only thing I'm slightly apprehensive about is the taking over of a new team. Their current manager doesn't know he's leaving yet, and the team won't find out until they're taken to the board room to meet me, while he's being dismissed by HR due to poor performance.
I'm aware that they will have built up a relationship with their manager over the 18 months he's been there, and I'll be viewed with suspicion and possible resentment initially.
Any advice on how to deal with this? Anyone here been in a similar situation?
