Great minds think alike!
How you finding the handbrake on that hill you park her on?
Judging by your user name, we definitely think alike!!How you finding the handbrake on that hill you park her on?
I think that the photo's may be exaggerating the slope a little, as it is quite shallow. The handbrake seems to cope with all situations. Are they a known weakness then?

Yup. E39 handbrakes are awful most of the time. Mine works for a while and then changes it's mind and wouldn't even hold a shopping trolley in place.....Tried everything to fix it.
Anything that needs doing on yours?
I have to say, so far, touch wood, everything's in order. The car is in amazing condition, no noises, clunks or leaks. Full history, low(ish) miles (69k), right spec, I couldn't be happier! I did wait a while before finding this one though, I know not all of them are so sound.Anything that needs doing on yours?
One minor issue, the alarm likes waking me up at 4a.m. I checked the bonnet sensor and it seemed fine, any ideas?

What a great machine. A stunning example of one of the finest all rounders ever produced.
You'll probably want to watch this...

Thanks. I wish it was as clever as Mr Owen's though! His appears to self correct oversteer without the input of the driver (4:47). You'll probably want to watch this...

stunning car, i like it.
how do you rate it. i recently sold my e34 m5, the greatest car i ever had, but because of my job, just not used enough. i'd consider an e39 in the future, job permitting.
I've always wanted an M5, I'd of loved an E34 but it never happened. The E39 M5 always, realistically, represented the ultimate attainable 'great' car for me. All those Evo road tests are now parked on my drive (with a lot of the roads they use not too far away as well!) and I'm pretty content. how do you rate it. i recently sold my e34 m5, the greatest car i ever had, but because of my job, just not used enough. i'd consider an e39 in the future, job permitting.
It really is good. Basically, it does everything very, very well. Maybe not one of the fastest super saloons any more, but it's got too much for most things out there.
My advice, if you can stretch to one, go for it!!

Umm always thought the driving in that film to be a bit suspect, made for the American market 'Look he can change gear!! and when you go fast round corners let go of the wheel!'
Always thought this summed up the beast:
