I know this is all but criminal but have a with an E61 M5 touring which has been idle for just over 4 yrs. Is there anything I should do or be weary of when I go to start it?

For your kidney or the car lol.
It's one owner from new (June 07), interlargos Blue. 20K max on clock. E61 pretty well speced, not sure on additional extras tho does have large sunroof and power boot option. It's based in Sheffield, hopefully gonna pop up to it this weekend and get pics of it and the nissan and see the dealer about "service"

Trailer to a BMW dealer? Pretty much all of these activities should be possible without that. Except for the system reset, surely a new battery it should just go back to defaults or can't they design an embedded system properly?

I don't have that sort of money for such a punt.

Sytner do though, and they can sort it and no one be any the wiser.

Keep us updated with the outcome though mate.

He couldn't have used it 6 months! Did it even have the running in service?

I think about 35K, it's a UK spec with sat nav on a 59 plate in silver with 5k on clock.

Please post it . The last time I bought a car on a whim was in 2003 , a 1999 M5 . Drove past it on a car sales lot. I turned around and went for a closer look , 2 days later it was sitting on my drive. I should exit this thread now but something tells me it's just the beginning.....

I'm sure the car will be fine.
Service, Tyres & maybe new pads & battery & off you go.

I'm sure it's fine too but better safe than sorry, car has just been collected for it's transport to garage for work to start.

I’m sorry Dean but not been impressed with BMW dealer network on the whole, both wrt car or costing. Inc the one the M5 was as purchased from for just over 90K (1 of 7 cars from them!).
Interest from some v good independents who seem to care about the car more than just profit.
The car is well spec’d even for a standard M5 & have taken this on board both for the good of the car and valuation.
Inspection today / tomorrow for service and overhaul for work next week.

As far as I"m aware would be no issues as never been serviced outside of approved BMW ppl, and well within the required 60k on mileage.[quote=SD 80]Would it be possible to purchase a BMW or Mondial warranty for this?

If more than 2 years between services, regardless of mileage covered, the car would not be eligible for the BMW/Mondial extended warranty.
Have just checked using vehicle details, Natalie at Mondial has confirmed there is absolutely no problem in providing a warranty, 3 levels of cover and 18 different pricing options etc etc and has kindly sent me the details via email. It's called a lasped policy and covers after one month and will only not cover and previous faults. Which are none according to BMW after full clean bill of health received in writing today. I even mentioned this 2 year servicing gap, so poss updated the policy or now just profit driven. Either way It is possible lookin at e-mail comprehensive cover BMW / Mondial for yr for E61 M5 is £1044.20 so cheaper than the mthly fuel bill.
