Is EDC just a gimmick on a E9x M3?

I really had to have EDC when looking to buy my M3 as early road tests recommended it & I have got it with the manual gearbox, but I notice the M3 GTS & CRT haven't got it so do we think its really worth the extra outlay if you were buying new or surely if it was that good wouldn't the high end M3's have it?

Just your thoughts please

Agree I am happy with it & it does give you options regards the ride & in the hardest setting you can feel a real difference & I notice in the classifieds there are alot for sale with EDC & DCT so that must be a good combo.

Not really road cars, are they? Low volume race cars registered for road use almost. AFAIK, none of the sporting Porsche have EDC, but have a higher setting dampers option.

Thanks, that would explain why it's absent then & why it's not fitted.

I just tend to leave it in comfort most of the time & I use the M button to flick it into its hardest setting linked to the other harder settings & you really feel the car change character, as most say its a brilliant Jekyll & hyde car, great fun when you want it to be or comfy & sedate if not.

Excellent stuff you must be well excited, enjoy collecting it & I look forward to your thoughts on it, I will admit I am pleased mine has EDC but the whole car is a great package anyway.

EDC on the E30?

Yes it had adjustable dampers from what I have read, not sure how similar it is to EDC though.

It was called EDC, introduced in 1987.

Cheers for that I am surprised they missed two generations of M3 out with it though & now most of bmws range can be specced with adjustable dampers its catching on after a slow start 26 years ago!

Depends what you want from the car as to whether or not EDC is a must have. I have it and think its very useful for 'normal' driving versus a much firmer ride (on the basis the roads are smooth as well otherwise better off in normal).

Probably makes the car a bit more sell-able, if I was planning on keeping the car for as long as I can and want it to be better in the handling department I'd be happy to go without EDC and get some KWV3 coilovers put on.

To answer the subject title question, no I dont think its just a gimmick.

I think I could have used a better phrase to describe it, just after people's thoughts on whether they thought its a benefit or not, which many have kindly answered
