Got about 5-6 grand towards a new car. M5 just squeeze into around that price bracket.

Ran some insurance quotes as I have to at 19 before I even think about buying.

Came in at about £2100 for the year. I felt that was good value, paid £1800 for a cherry.

Anyone have a opinion on this? Financial suicide?

If we ignore the fact im more likely to crash it than a slower car. What would your opinion be?

What sort of running costs can I expect?

I'm guessing a average of 20mpg as i don't do much town driving or motorway. Mostly 60mph A roads and unclassified roads.

Guessing most cars in my price bracket will be dogs so will require more work.

Are the parts themselves expensive or is it the labour cost that makes it expensive?

First off I don't care about image at all. Drove a Datsun Cherry with rattle can sprayed paint till it ate a engine.

At my mums house she runs a 4x4 business from it with her boyfriend and his son working as mechanics.
I would imagine I have all the tools to fix most things. I can fix a fair bit myself but if I needed help they would happily help.

The £500 for brakes isn't *that* bad as I wouldn't have fitting costs?

Stop talking rubbish. It was a 750il before now an M5. It seems like your whoring for attention, no ones impressed in what your thinking of getting in your imagination.
Got left 5k by a relative. M5 was in that budget, never said I was 100% getting one.

I asked if it would be financial suicide and that the insurance was a lot less than I expected.

Also whoring for attention? What would I possibly gain by doing that?

Clue is in your title. The purchase price and fuel economy will be the least of your worries. E39 M5s are notoriously expensive to run especially cheap ones and they will ruin you financially.

Posts like this show your immaturity.

"See for this tank problem everyone is talking about. Wouldnt fitting a fuel tank in the spare wheel well or the boot just be as good except you would lose abit of space?

Not going to ever be carrying a boot full of stuff i reckon."
My cherry's boot had no space for anything, had a large subwoofer there and the parcel shelf was stuck down with more speakers in it. So I was right about nothing in boot.

I recently moved and now dont have to drive for work or shopping so fuel economy isnt a huge bill.

I earn a decent wage have no kids and cheap rent sharing a flat. I asked here if I could feasibly run a M5, never said I have to have one.

Can't have a m3, e36/46.

Insurance is over £3000 easily.

Would having about £4k a year for failure be enough?

Should you get one at 19? If the most powerful car you've owned is a FWD Datsun Cherry, I'd say probably not.
Not a standard one tongue out

About 170 bhp weighing like 800kgs, not sure it makes a difference to your opinion though.

So pretty much, I could afford to run one but don't as I will die in a ball of fire?

Lowest postcode area, IV2, 3 over 50s as named drivers, 2 years ncb.

From reading expect 2-3k a year in bills, I could afford that without problems except less buying drinks for friends.

Just wether or not I can drive without Dieing is the problem then I guess.

I've heard about that guy before. Sad story.

Might wait a while as the general consensus is I will die. Or a block of wood under the accelerator tongue out

Thanks for that reply, I understand the driver aids bit. The cherry had no power steering, abs or anything.

Could make the dash to 60 in around 6 seconds, plenty fast enough to get me in trouble with brakes that couldn't slow a bike.

Using comparethemarket

Kept at night on private property, 9 other cars there. Not sure what else changes it.

Fully comp is 5k, tpft is the 2k quote.

Going to wait a year and get experience in a rwd car first.

What's a e36 328i like running cost wise compared to the m5?

I could afford to run a m5, but everyone said I will die. Thus the e36 328i. Meant if it's Realy a lot cheaper to run that's more money for a nicer m5 after a year.

Update to this. Ended up not buying any car yet and spent money on moving into a place of my own.

The fun of a place of my own has to be vastly more fun than a car. biggrin
