Running in service costs on M5
Discussion
Chaps,
Just booked my car in for its 1200 mile service.
Im bit shocked by the price I have just been quoted.
I know some folk on here have had this service included,
I'd be grateful to hear how much others have paid for this.
If its in line with what other have paid I'll bite my lip, but if not
I will happy to name and shame the dealer who has just quoted me what I consider to be a massive amount for an oil change and minimal labour of less than an hour and half.
Thanks in advance.

I phoned round several dealers and got the idea a lot of them didn't know what they were talking about.
One dealer claimed to need the car overnight as the oil had to be cold....
Price ranged from £340 to well over £400 (including VAT). Strange when most brands now do fixed price servicing.

Mine was also included in the deal - they reduced my deposit by £320, the cost of the service.
It took about 3 hours, apparently it's getting the engine oil level correct that takes time so I was told.
Once that's done, the car has launch control activated should you wish to get away from the lights faster than the bloody thing can already

It's basically cross comparing service/item costs from various approved dealerships up and down the country and in particular those local to you. All you have to do is quote these prices and say "well....the nearest dealership is quoting X....I can show you proof online if you like" and they'll squirm a little and match or beat the price.
If you pay the first asking price, they'll simply rip you off again and again.

I do not have an M5 but I do I have an E93 M3 DCT and have just had my running in service carried out.The BMW dealership closest to me wanted £511.74, phoned a different dealer in another town and was quoted £235 without any haggling, needless to say I took my car here. Its truly shocking that franchised dealers can vary their prices so much on such a basic service item.

mine was £370 from Synter Brum and they collected and dropped me off at the hotel I was staying in. The next service isnt due until 18K miles I believe, so whats the big issue on a £75K car?
The fact that you buy the car but can't actually drive it properly until you pay another £370 more than you agreed to pay. mjw0321 said:

The fact that you buy the car but can't actually drive it properly until you pay another £370 more than you agreed to pay. Why can't they test these cars, prior to delivery, on some sort of dyno machine, let the car run in to its service and then change the oil as needed and simply revert the mileage back to 0?
So, the saga continues....
Ive been quoted, 527inc VAT
507inc VAT
250inc VAT
How on earth can prices vary by more that 50 %
The £250 service is at a dealership that is only 40 miles away from the most expensive one.
Its crazy really, because Im likely to take my new car to the cheaper dealer, and then guess who im going to think about buying my next car from.....
Not the ultimate driving experience.
