Chaps,

Im now 5 years into a very happy e46 m3 ownership (csl airbox and 356mm bbk ftw).

Wondering what all those who left this car behind went for and how it compared?

Have to admit C63 sounds tempting!

A z4m? That always struck me as not enough of a change to justify?

So anyone actually gone to a 911 or cayman s or e90 or v8 vantage or maybe even r8 or rs4/6?

Have to say have always fancied a 911 but the ones ive tested have been no more bang for a lot more buck.

M5 and M6 V10 variant also?

Took mine for a blast yesterday. crikey the csl box sounds awesome. even got a thumbs up from an onlooker. Im sure its quicker now its clean too. Doing the double glance again as walk away. so sad haha.

The super charger route sounds interesting. However the best bit of the car is the CSL airbox, wouldnt want to loose that.

997 c2s Gen II in a couple years (when 20kish) might be worthwhile.

I spent ages saving for a replacement to my M3.

So far I've driven a C63 and XKR and the C63 would tick the box but the tank range is woeful and I'd be filling up twice a week.

I really don't know where to go, XFR, Comp pack E92, 997 PDK? or something classic to run alongside, 993, Alfa GT?

Stumped.
Non of them are a hands down, gotta change to this, so far then?

Csl z4m z3m? 911 1m m4 should all do the trick

Yup, that's the tricky one. I'd drive away in a C63 right now but to spend all my savings and put up with worse fuel economy/range seems like madness. XKR is very very quick but felt disconnected in comparison to the M3.

An extra £20k for another M3 that some say isn't as good as the E46? I'd need another 10k to start looking at PDK 911s which seem like a logical upgrade from an SMG car.

Now I'm looking at leases which I'd sworn never to do. M135i for 300/month all in at the end of last year, how much for M235i/M4 at the end of this/next year?. Or a 99/month Skoda Citigo and carry on saving for something special for the weekends.

It's all madness.
thank god there is another crazy person out there like me. smile

Why didnt bmw put the bloody v10 into something sporty instead of that abortion of a 6 series. On paper the m6 has it (on a paper without pictures i mean).

I think perhaps Vantage is the only route to replace e46 m3.

What about slk 55amg? 355 bhp v8. tunable to 390 and 1500 kg.

wish list
v8 v10 or v12
aurally epic
light and nimble (sub 1500kg)
stunning / sports car looks
nice inside (no elise)
relatively modern (ideally 2007+ or 2000+ for an epic)

Not many cars that equal and i think they are mostly ferrari which are sadly out of budget!

on paper the slk 55 amg sounds good, well in budget too at 16k. however reviews say the tcs and gearbox make it st on the twisties. I want something to hoon through the alps in, as well as get me there in style.

A cayman S sounds good if it had 360 bhp. That however is called a 911 which adds another 8k onto the price.

Its nice to hear you lot going through the same thought process.

Anyway the dilemma is solved for me at least.

Once again ive decided i will be buried in my e46. Although now it will have 550 bhp thanks to ESS smile

You can have 911 turbo beating performance with a charged e46 for less + a better look imo. And you can fit a mountain bike in the back smile

I have the e36 3.2 evo for trackdays and its wicked smile

I have always wanted a 911 tbh. But the cost, reliability, 996 looks, reported lack of reliability always keeps me with the m.

When 997 911 gen ii PDK's come into the 20's i might though.
