Just covered under 1k miles in my new F80 M3 and experienced a intermittent fault.
I would be interested if anyone has had a similar experience?

Twice within the the first 250 miles when I pulled up to a halt, then pulled away had a loud twang noise (like a spring going off ) from rear of car.
Took it to dealership, no fault found after trying to re-create it.
They had quick check as we were heading off to the Lakes for the weekend, and they said it was safe to use.
On return from Lakes on Sunday the traffic was stop / start from J20 on the M6, about two miles from M5 junction traffic came to halt again, this time car wouldn't move off!
Traffic on both sides starting moving at a rapid rate of knots and started to wonder what to do next, wife had the solution, panic!
Tried to move again and loud brake like drone came from rear of car.
At this time I was very conscious of the traffic behind us was probably wondering what was going on.
I had nothing to lose so moved Dct gear change to reverse and back again, thank god it moved off this time.

Think the fault will be very difficult to find and I don't want to go down the route of parts being changed without the actual fault being found, and being told to try it out and see how it goes!
I feel car is not safe to use, so had dealership take it away this afternoon.
I have said that I don't want it back as I don't think I could ever trust it would never happen again.
Too risky when I have to consider the wife could be driving it without me and the two kids on board.

Obviously very disappointed, as I am a BMW enthusiast and the current cars are x5 and a csl and had 5 other bmw's beforehand.

Now waiting for dealership response, so appreciate comments and knowing what my rights are?

Shawn

Many Thanks
That's interesting
I hope it doesn't happen to you, if it does select reverse and back to drive, and hopefully that will do the trick.
I will let you all know what happens next with the dealer.

Thanks for the responses.
There is a internal mail going around BMW about this issue to see if other dealers have had similar reports.
It would help get this issue highlighted and resolved quickly, so please let your dealer/s know of the problem you have experienced.
Thanks
Shawn

I guess so, didn't have it long enough to get the manual out and take a look.

PS If anyone is getting a M3 or M4 and has young children and has Isofix seats, it may pay to try your seats in the car first!
We have Britax seats, two types, one is nearly impossible to fit and the other will not fit, also placement of seatbelt buckle is a pain to say the least.
These seats have been in my Audi A7, (A4 & A6 loan cars when A7 in for service) Wife's X5, Audi A3, T5 Carravelle, Audi SQ5 with no issue.

Forgot to mention the conclusion
Got my money back in full
BMW. Uk didn't want to know and said it was down to dealership to handle refund.
Took quite a few phone calls saying I want my money back, when I mention I would contact bbc watchdog it seem to have desired effect.
I have asked what was going to happen to the car, I was hoping it would go back to BMW uk or hq to sort the problem, which would make me comfortable issued is resolved and I could think again about getting one.
Basically left for dealership to sort out.
They were going to put some miles on the car to try and find the problem.
I Have asked monthly if they had found the problem up to recent they hadn't , then got vehicle mileage verification form this week saying car was sold on 3rd December!
Asked again and no reply so far.
So if you have a F80.M3 reg no VK64 HVM , be careful when you stop in traffic on the motorway!
