Well as the title states, I'm now starting the search for my dream car and I'd much rather buy from a fellow enthusiast than from a garage that doesn't know anything about the car.

Firstly, my price bracket is around £20k but may be willing to increase this for the perfect car.

I'm looking for either a Monaco Blue or Sapphire Black really but space grey is also a possibility. The verdict is still out.

As I'll be using this as a daily, the lower the mileage the better.

Not overly fussed about soft close doors, comfort access etc as the cars are fairly well spec'd as standard.

So if you or anyone you know is selling theirs and it's black or blue, I would be keen to hear more about them.

Thanks,

H

As far as I'm aware Monaco blue is just a blue on regular BMWs, it's not an M or individual colour. Therefore I highly doubt there's a single Monaco blue on an E61 M5 which is already a rare car. Plenty of blacks and greys though.
Check out M5Portal, all the stats are there.

Sounds like a good car.

Just a couple of questions;
Has any work been done to the clutch?
Did you say it had every option fitted?
What's the monthly cost for the warranty?
What's the reason for selling?

It would be good to see some photos so fingers crossed you can give her a wash at the weekend. thumbup

It's not the ideal car for urban use - the SMG gearbox's starting off in first gear and low speed, low throttle upshifts are not its best points and the fuel consumption in traffic can make your eyes water. Add almost £500/year in road tax and I suspect some people get tired of the car rather quickly and move it on. But get onto an open road where you can use the revs and a decent fraction of its speed capability and it's a delight to drive. Horses for courses and all that.
I'm really looking forward to having to drive a car again instead of it diving me which is essentially what an automatic does.
When I first experienced the SMG, I was amazed that I could actually feel the biting point as if I was driving a manual car with a DIY clutch. Very clever stuff but I can see why people don't like it, especially when they expect it to drive like an auto.
I drove around Crawley for a little bit and even in D, I enjoyed driving it.

The £500 road tax I can swallow as it's only a few tanks of fuel really.

Can't wait to own one.

its averaged 1 owner per 14 months or so
Mine's averaged one owner per year too, I suspect that unless it is part of someone's multi-car collection it is the type of car that is amusing to own for a short period and then you come to your senses and get something more sensible.

I'll be looking to sell mine in the New Year (after around 13-14 months ownership), which was always the plan when I bought it.
Same as my RS6 really but I bought on condition.

What do you think you'll replace yours with?

Bit of advice needed please guys.

I'm looking at a car at the moment and it's being sold by a trader but has an AUC warranty which the previous owner was given when he bought the car as an AUC from a main dealer.

So it has a warranty until May next year which is great but the mileage will be over the 60k threshold when I take out a Mondial warranty.

Do you think the monthly amount will be through the roof or will it be around the £100 per month as it's been under warranty for the previous year?

Any help or advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

H

when my auc warranty ended, from what i remember you went on the web site

https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Login/Index

with having auc warranty already you would not have to wait to make a claim or have your car inspected by bmw before your warranty started. i don't think having auc already made any difference on the price. mine was well over 60k and costs £145 for full cover with £250 excess
Thanks for the infor Dave.

I've just inserted a reg of a different car with 64000 miles and the monthly cost would be £348!!!!! HA.
I might give Mondial a call and see what they say.
