Hi guys,

My 2005 (Nov registered) Convertible has just been booked in for the subframe to be checked next month for cracks. The lady on the phone said BMW don't have a 10yr warranty on the subframe but theyw ill check it free of charge and simply supply the findings to BMW and it's BMW who will give the final say on whether they will do any work needed under "goodwill" or not based on the car meeting certain criteria (maintenance, mileage, condition etc).

Is that correct? Everything I've read online points to a 10yr warranty so why they are saying there isn't a subframe warranty is puzzling.

Needless to say.my car has 70k miles now and has FSH and is near mint so I have confidence in this at least.

Cheers!

They will try and get out of it if they can by saying that the car hasn't been serviced at the correct intervals etc. However they can't use this on the sub frame because AFAIK no where in any of the service criteria is a sub frame check listed.
Ah excellent thanks! I'm sure they will say what they can to not accept. Looking on cutters, it seems around 80 have been accepted, 8 or so rejected and various unknowns.

Update!

Subframe inspected by Snows Portsmouth, no cracks smile

I suppose my near future option now is whether to pre-empt future cracking and get the ETA plates installed for around £500 or however much they charge?

Interested in seeing those too! On the flipside I've read nothing but praise for ETA's installation!

There are a couple of lengthy threads on Cutters about this which I presume you've read, all I would say is if Snows aren't on the recommended list you might want a second opinion from a trusted dealer or indy.

Mine was checked by a main dealer just before I bought it and given the all clear. Long story short, the floor was indeed cracked and they missed it. The issue was spotted by an Indy, then confirmed and repaired under goodwill by North Oxford without fuss just before the 10 years was up. Both garages said the problem would definitely have been there at the time of previous dealer's inspection.

Not trying to scaremonger, just don't want you to miss out on a BMW repair if it's justified. The invoice for the work done to mine was £3800 ex VAT!
Oh wow that's quite a good shout then. Do you happen to know which thread the recommended list was on? I'm just trying to search for it now.

Edit*
I will contact ETA tomorrow and book in a check up with them,. they are almost 2 hours away from me though, but at least this will provide ultimate peace of mind.
