New F10 ordered
Discussion
Long time lurker, first time poster...
Ordered a new F10 back in June; spec is:
1. Would it be worth me getting a set of 20" wheels and doing something with wheel changes / snow tyres for the winter(s)?
2. My BMW history is - E61 535d (tuned), E92 M3, F12 640i - I have to say that of all these, I think the 535 was my favourite - While the M3 was fun, it started to creak alarmingly and BMW said that they'd likely charge me to fix it as it was likely an 'adjustment' that needed to be made rather than a fault to be fixed. The 6 has been pretty much a let down - while the soft-top is fun, there's just not enough power when overtaking, unless you're in sports plus, which makes the steering oppressively heavy. Thoughts on how I'll find the F10 after that history?!
3. Best place for insurance for the thing? Clean license / no accidents, 33 years old, still being quoted £700 a year - read someone on here got it for about £350 or so?!
4. Ordered on June 29th, had to chase for information constantly - was finally told the car would be sent to production last week - checked today, it actually went into production this Monday (31st August) - I've asked repeatedly for the VIN so I can track it myself, only got it after been quite arsey on the phone. Is this normal?! How long after production starts can I realistically expect delivery?
Cheers guys!

I had my VIN very early on but couldn't find a way as a UK customer to track (outside of dealer systems). I was very fortunate however as my dealer is very proactive and would send me updates every time the status changed. For your reference these were my status updates:
20/08/15 5300 Pre Assembly Start
21/08/15 5500 Assembly Complete
24/08/15 8200 Released to Carrier - Left Factory
27/08/15 9605 Pre EU Port of Exit - Arrived In Zeebrugge
27/08/15 9620 At Sea
29/08/15 9630 Port of Entry - Arrived at Immingham
I've just had word that it arrived at the dealer this morning and I'll be collecting it Tuesday!!
That's excellent - my dealer says it was Released to Carrier, so hopefully we're looking at - what, maybe 10 days or so as long as the ferries are consistent. Very nice of your dealer to keep you updated like that, mine seemed to stop caring completely once they had the deposit. This is the first new car I've ever bought and wanted to make it more of an 'event' - like going to the BMW factory myself to collect - making a little holiday of it. But no such luck!20/08/15 5300 Pre Assembly Start

That's like the b@stard love child (other than the Comfort Access) of my 2 F10 M5's
Love that picture... does any man need TWO F10's?!? Love it.I'm in Yorkshire so the weather will be much of a muchness. Thanks for the heads up on Tesco, I'll certainly give them ago - mine's also garaged. Do you have other people insured on it - often sticking my (72 year old) father as a named driver on the insurance has dropped it significantly even though he'd very rarely (e.g. never!) drive it.

Can't fault the car at all. Only thing I would suggest (and wished I had done the same) the front of the car is very square - and as such prone to stone chips easily. My car has a few already, not to mention a few chips in the windscreen.. Its getting detailed this weekend - time to get some decent wax on it, to try and protect the body work and leather better, but some 3M stuff would have been better - too late now.
The real time traffic is very good - everytime I follow it - I don't hit traffic at all - When I first got the car, I would ignore it and end up in jams!
Performance is good - car is quick no doubt - I ride a motorbike daily into London - so my sense of speed is using that as a reference.
Its comfy, MPG isn't that bad (comparable to the X5 4.0D I traded in).
Only downside are a few rattles that I can hear on occasion - but not bothered to investigate yet.
On both the M3 and the 6, driving down the motorway on the way home from the dealer, a large stone was kicked up by a van / lorry in front. Both times. The thing flew up as if in slow motion. On the 6 it's tucked out of the way, on the M3 it was RIGHT in the eye-line. Drove me utterly mad! Some decent protection wouldn't go amiss... The (cream / custom) leather in the 6 and M3 got pretty messed up from my jeans, I've learned the lesson now and will be using the leather protection stuff.
Sounds like there are a lot of more communicative dealers out there!
Still facing a complete lack of communication from the dealer regarding the status of my car, I called today at 15:20 and asked for an update. Was promised a call straight back.
I called again at 15:50 and was promised a call back before close of business at 16:00.
Got a call at 16:15 to tell me that the computer link to the order tracking system cuts out at 16:00 so my order can't properly be tracked. But the last information they got was that it should arrive in week 40 (September 28th). The original delivery date was supposed to be week 36 (August 31st)
My question is, what comeback do I have about this or what can be done? I've had a holiday planned for this Friday with the new car and this going to completely ruin it...
The car was ordered in the last week of June. Pretty irritated; mostly at the total lack of updates.

What an utterly excellent car. Well worth the wait. They put 1/4 tank of fuel in her, topped up immediately with V-Power at eye-watering motorway service station prices.
Put 500 miles on the clock yesterday (and no doubt £5,000 off the value) but had a total blast!
One question - I have the powered boot lid And comfort access options. Should I be able to open the boot by kicking under the number plate? The salesman at handover said "uh, I don't think it's standard" when I tried...

You do feel a bit of a prat at first but soon get the hang of it
Damned right! Figured it out while a bunch of us were stood around in my garage yesterday admiring the colour and the boot kept opening as if by itself...Didn't realise how nice the SG looked - flecks of blue in the right light, very classy.
Might have accidentally used kickdown a few times, hope it won't upset it too much before the 1200 mile service, which is booked for next week...
