Hi. I'm thinking about buying a Z4M roadster. The car is for sale with a main dealer and is on the registration PX06PYT. It has previously been on the registration DSU992.

Does anyone know the car or one of the previous owners?

The dealership has apparently "lost" the service book so would like to try to learn a bit about the car's history if possible.

Any help would be appreciated!

That's what I thought, agree on price.

Apparently the car was serviced previously at Douglas Park and the salesman said that they've been in touch with them, but all records lost in some system changeover?

Am sure it's fine, but just seemed a bit strange as I thought BMW logged service info centrally.

They'll issue an AUC warranty, which I guess means the service history must have been complete ?

Agreed. Am trying to piece it together and need to see how far I can get.

Looks the car may not have had a running-in service... Am trying to confirm...

Spoke to BMW... According to their systems, the first time it went to a main dealer was in 2010, so looking like no services in the first four years... rolleyes

Agree. The cynical part of me wonders about the coincidence that the workshop of the dealer (who has serviced this car for 5ish years) has suddenly now lost the service book...

Curious that the supplying dealer has serviced it since 2010 but lost the service book at the time of sale...

... As part of selling it as an AUC a main dealer should have done the following (straight from BMW UK's website):
Verify car hasn’t been written off
Check for major accident damage
Verify mileage with HPI or Experian
Ensure no outstanding finance
Full service history
...
BMW GB also told me that the car must have a full service history to be sold as an AUC.

Unclear if this one ticks that box...

Out of curiosity, what would be a reasonable price for this car to be purchased as is ?

Update: the dealer has behaved in a very unprofessional way, with a complete lack of integrity.

Warning to other buyers: based on my experience, I would avoid a certain franchise BMW dealer located in Irvine. They give the brand a very bad name IMHO.

Tried to convince me it was fine. Only when I challenged the validity of the warranty, did it emerge that it couldn't be sold as an AUC car.

Then they made an offer to sell it at a lower price as non-AUC, which I accepted, before they turned around and refused to honour the offer.

All very bizarre and annoying. Interestingly the service department of the dealer has looked after the car since 2010. But they only lost the service book when prepping it for sale. A common issue, I'm sure. Particularly where there are doubts about the service history...

Sounds like you were right to walk away! Suspect they've decided not to honour their offer of a sale at a lower price because on reflection they probably think they'll find another buyer who won't do the sort of due diligence you have and hence will be prepared to pay more. Anyway, if it's not meant to be it's not meant to be; good luck with your search, sure the right car will turn-up soon!
Agreed. Just hope anyone about to get into a similar situation reads this and takes a cautious approach.
